Job Description

Description We are looking for a Legal Assistant to support attorneys with document preparation, court filings, scheduling, and file management in Baltimore, Maryland. This role is well suited to someone who can handle multiple priorities efficiently, maintain accurate records, and communicate professionally with clients, courts, and internal teams. The ideal candidate brings strong technical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced legal environment with shifting deadlines.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare, format, proofread, and revise legal correspondence, memoranda, and other case-related documents to ensure accuracy and high quality.
  • Submit pleadings and other case materials through electronic filing systems for both state and federal courts while monitoring confirmation and compliance requirements.
  • Manage attorney calendars by tracking hearings, meetings, deadlines, and reminders to help ensure timely completion of legal matters.
  • Open new matters, coordinate conflict checks, organize digital and paper files, and assist with file review, storage, and closing procedures.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail, route time-sensitive items through appropriate delivery services, and follow up to confirm prompt distribution.
  • Record billable time and related administrative activity accurately and in a timely manner in support of client invoicing.
  • Welcome clients and visitors, schedule appointments, and assist with attorney travel coordination while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with administrative staff and support departments to provide coverage for typing, filing, copying, faxing, and reception needs as business demands require.
  • Prioritize competing assignments effectively and provide additional legal administrative support as requested, including occasional work outside standard business hours. Requirements
  • Prior experience in a legal assistant or comparable law office support role - 5+ years preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other legal or office software used for document production and case support.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic court filings, including state and federal e-filing procedures.
  • Strong proofreading, grammar, spelling, and document formatting skills with careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, organize high-volume work, and remain effective under time constraints.
  • Experience maintaining accurate legal files, calendars, records, and administrative documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact tactfully with attorneys, clients, visitors, and internal staff.
  • Familiarity with law office practices such as trial preparation, calendar management, and confidential file handling.
