Job Description

Direct Hire Opportunity! We are seeking a detail-oriented Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our client's team. This position plays a vital role in processing probate matters while providing professional, compassionate service to attorneys, families, and members of the public. The typical schedule is Monday thru Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm. Pay is $25-27/hr, plus a benefits package.
Responsibilities include:
  • Process probate matters, including estates, guardianships, conservatorships, name changes, and adoptions.
  • Docket legal documents and maintain accurate records, timelines, and reports.
  • Assist the public by answering questions and preparing documents.
  • Draft correspondence and provide administrative support for probate cases.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, court procedures, and filing requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members, cross-train in multiple office functions, and participate in ongoing professional development. Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience as a legal assistant or probate clerk or 2+ years of paralegal experience preferred; our client may consider someone without legal experience if they have particularly strong administrative experience.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with the public.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn and apply complex legal principles and procedures.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to learn new responsibilities through ongoing training and cross-training.
  • Must obtain a Maine Notary Public commission within two months of hire.
  • Must meet our client's background check requirements.
