We are seeking experienced Legal Assistants II to provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) within the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri (Kansas City). The Legal Assistant will prepare, process, organize, and maintain complex legal documents and case materials supporting federal criminal and civil litigation. This position requires excellent judgment, accuracy, organization, and discretion, along with the ability to manage competing priorities and time-sensitive assignments in a fast-paced legal environment. Key Responsibilities Examine, prepare, and process complex, voluminous, and time-sensitive legal documents and case materials. Review incoming materials and determine the appropriate preparation and assembly of complaints, motions, pleadings, orders, answers, subpoenas, warrants, and other litigation documents. Obtain information from case files, courts, law enforcement agencies, and other authorized sources to prepare complete and accurate legal documents. Analyze the nature and procedural status of assigned matters to ensure documents comply with applicable court rules and filing requirements. Prepare recurring legal documents with minimal supervision, including: Criminal and civil complaints; Indictments; Motions and pleadings; Search and seizure warrants; Judgments and garnishments; Applications, notices, and affidavits; Summonses; Grand jury and deposition subpoenas; Orders to show cause; Satisfactions of judgment; Proofs of claim Support trial preparation by compiling trial notebooks, organizing case materials, preparing jury instructions, and assembling witness and exhibit lists. Use online legal research tools and databases to verify citations, statutory references, and case authorities. Prepare tables of contents, indices, and tables of authorities for briefs and other court filings.
