A Paralegal or Legal Assistant assists attorneys and law offices with a variety of tasks ranging from administrative support to legal research and writing. Maintains and organizes files or file databases. Conducts legal or other background research, assists with preparation for trials or hearings, and drafts documents to be filed. Uses software for electronic discovery of materials such as email for a trial. May specialize in a particular area of the law such as corporate or criminal law, family law or real estate law.
Legal assistants are responsible for overseeing the coordination, management, and progression of legal cases from inception through resolution. This role serves as a liaison between paralegals, attorneys, clients, courts, and other involved parties to ensure cases are handled efficiently, deadlines are met, and documentation is complete and organized. In preforming their duties, Legal Assistants will: Serve as the primary point of contact for attorneys regarding case file information, documentation, and file location. Organize and manage legal documents including pleadings, motions, discovery, and correspondence. Maintain and update case files, docket calendars, and internal databases as directed by the attorney or paralegal. Coordinate case files and documents in line with attorney and paralegal schedules, court dates, deadlines, and meetings with clients and legal teams. Track case progress and ensure compliance with legal procedures and deadlines. Conduct legal research as needed under attorney supervision. Work closely with attorneys and paralegals to prepare case files and prepare for hearings, trials, and mediations. Track time spent on case-related activities. Legal assistants utilize computer information systems and client relationship management systems, such as Clio and Microsoft Windows Based Servers, to effectively organize and manage legal case files, document correspondence, and assist attorneys in optimizing the process of case load management.
Qualifications We Require:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or related field (or equivalent experience). 2+ years of experience in a legal or case management role. Strong understanding of legal terminology, documentation, and processes. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal case management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther). Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple cases simultaneously.
Qualifications We Desire:
Paralegal certification (e.g., NALA, NFPA, or state-specific certification). Experience in [e.g., family law, personal injury, criminal law, etc.].
Pay:
$20.00 - $23.00 per hour
