Paralegal (Government/Public Records & Compliance)

Contract Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Paralegal to support a government legal team by assisting with public records requests, legal compliance, document review, and a variety of legal projects. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced legal environment, is highly organized, and can manage multiple priorities while maintaining strict confidentiality. The ideal candidate has experience supporting attorneys, interpreting legal requirements, and working with public records, contracts, and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities Process and manage public records requests while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and response deadlines. Collaborate with attorneys and internal departments to identify, collect, review, and produce responsive records. Review legal documents and perform confidential and privileged information redactions. Assist with compliance related to privacy regulations, including HIPAA requirements and background check processes. Conduct legal research and interpret federal and state statutes, regulations, and agency policies. Support attorneys with legislative reviews, contract administration, grant agreements, and other legal initiatives. Track multiple legal projects and deadlines while maintaining organized records and documentation. Prepare written correspondence, legal summaries, and other documentation as needed. Maintain the highest level of confidentiality when handling sensitive information. Qualifications Associate degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Assistant Studies, or a related field (Bachelor's degree preferred). Paralegal certification (NALA, NFPA, or equivalent) preferred. 2-4+ years of paralegal or legal assistant experience. Government, administrative law, compliance, or public records experience strongly preferred. Experience supporting attorneys in a legal environment. Familiarity with public records laws (IPRA, FOIA, or similar) is highly desirable. Preferred Skills Strong legal research and analytical abilities. Experience reviewing and redacting confidential documents. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize competing deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Experience with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and document management systems. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with legal teams and business partners.

$28.00 per hour
