Job Description
Description This is a very important non-supervisory position which includes the performance of a variety of clerical and administrative tasks to support the administration of the City Attorney's office. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood "I SERVE" Core Values. Examples of Duties 1) Prepares correspondence for City Attorney; 2) Act as receptionist for the City Attorney Office; 3) Prepare legal documents, including pleadings, contracts, real estate closing documents; 4) Prepare and organize City Attorney's municipal court files; 5) Take dictation and/or utilize the Dictaphone; 6) Type and/or prepare correspondence; 7) Filing and organizing all records of the City Attorney's office; 8) Act as Office Manager for City Attorney Office; 9) Assist City Attorney with all cases as needed; 10) Reviews outgoing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy plus conformance to general policy; 11) Assists in preparation of pleadings required by federal and state courts; 12) Liability insurance claims liaison; 13) Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Typical Qualifications Education:
High School diploma/undergraduate or business school in secretarial administration; experience in secretarial field with portion thereof as legal secretary. Legal experience preferred but not required. Valid Texas Driver License. Supplemental Information Must be able to operate Dictaphone equipment and have outstanding typing ability. Must have ability and knowledge to operate word processing equipment using Microsoft Word. Must have outstanding communications skills in both verbal and written. Must have some knowledge of municipal law and ability to read and inspect correspondence to determine accuracy and conformance to standards. Legal experience preferred but not required. Ability to sit, stand, and move about an office or building. Ability to drive a vehicle to and from various worksites. Employee occasionally lifts materials weight approximately 20 to 30 pounds or climbs in order to reach cabinets. Ability to bend and squat in order to file or retrieve information. May be exposed to electrical, mechanical, or chemical hazards when operating/maintaining office equipment. Ability to see and handle small objects. Work indoors under pleasant conditions with light physical activity.
