About Us Perkins & Perkins is a law firm committed to providing high-quality legal representation and client-focused advocacy. Our team values professionalism, accuracy, and clear communication while supporting attorneys through all stages of case preparation and litigation. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support our criminal defense practice. Prior experience is preferred; however, candidates with relevant or transferable experience will be considered. Job Description As a Legal Assistant , you will provide essential administrative and case support to attorneys handling criminal matters. This role requires strong organizational skills, discretion, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities include:
Legal Writing Support:
Assist with drafting and formatting correspondence, pleadings, motions, discovery, and other court-related documents.
Client Communication:
Maintain regular communication with clients, provide case updates as directed by attorneys, and assist with scheduling and logistics.
Document & Case Management:
Organize and maintain case files, including court filings, discovery materials, evidence, and correspondence.
Scheduling & Calendaring:
Coordinate court dates, attorney appointments, client meetings, and deadlines; monitor calendars to ensure compliance.
Data Entry & Case Tracking:
Accurately input and update case information in the firm's case management system.
Records & Information Requests:
Request and track records related to criminal cases, including police reports, court records, jail records, and discovery materials.
Administrative Support:
Provide general administrative assistance to attorneys and staff as needed, including filing, scanning, and correspondence management.
Required Skills:
Strong writing skills are required. Bi-lingual preferred (Spanish). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Strong multitasking abilities and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to work as a team. Must be self-disciplined and have strong time management skills. Ability to use Filevine is a plus
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a legal or administrative role is a plus. Experience is preferred; we will also consider candidates with equivalent and/or relevant work experience.
