Job Description

Civil ParalegalPosition OverviewSupport attorneys in a busy civil litigation practice by managing case files, performing legal research, preparing pleadings and discovery, coordinating with clients and courts, and assisting with trial preparation. The Civil Paralegal will ensure deadlines and procedural requirements are met, streamline case workflows, and contribute to strong client service and successful case outcomes.

Key ResponsibilitiesManage and maintain case files, including organizing pleadings, correspondence, discovery, and exhibits.

Draft, proofread, and format legal documents such as complaints, answers, motions, declarations, subpoenas, and settlement agreements.

Support discovery processes: prepare and respond to interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, and manage document productions and privilege logs.

Conduct legal research using online databases (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis) and prepare research memoranda and citation checks for attorneys.

Coordinate e-filing and court filings, ensure compliance with local, state, and federal court rules and filing requirements.

Maintain calendaring for hearings, depositions, statute of limitations, and other critical deadlines; prepare and distribute calendars and reminders.

Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and vendors to schedule depositions, mediations, and hearings, and to gather case information.

Assist with trial preparation: organize exhibits, prepare trial binders, coordinate witnesses, and support attorneys during trial and hearings.

Manage billing entries and track case-related expenses, and assist with preparing fee statements and time summaries for attorneys.

Identify opportunities to improve case workflows and administrative processes to increase efficiency and accuracy within the litigation team.

QualificationsAssociate degree or paralegal certificate from an accredited program; bachelor's degree preferred.6+ years of civil litigation paralegal experience in a law firm or corporate legal department; experience with civil matters and litigation practice areas.

Strong knowledge of civil procedure, rules of evidence, and local, state, and federal court filing requirements.

Proven experience with legal research tools (Westlaw, Lexis) and proficiency with e-filing systems and case management software.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to draft clear and professional legal documents.

Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently as well as part of a team.

High degree of professionalism and ability to handle confidential client information ethically and discreetly.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), document management systems, and electronic discovery tools; litigation support software experience a plus.

Paralegal certification (e.g., NALA, NFPA/PP) or bar association membership preferred, but not required.
