Job Description

The Law Offices of Jason F. Barnes, P.C. is looking for a dependable, organized, and professional person to join our law office. Our practice focuses primarily on family law, adoption, mediation, and retirement division orders, including QDROs and related matters. This position requires someone who is friendly, caring, detail-oriented, comfortable working with the public, able to manage multiple tasks, and capable of maintaining confidentiality in a professional legal environment. Also, the person must have a desire to learn about the legal process, a willingness to help the law office legal staff, and a positive attitude. Responsibilities The legal assistant will assist with day-to-day office and case management tasks, including: Answering phones and communicating with clients, courts, attorneys, and third parties Scheduling appointments, consultations, mediations, court deadlines, and client meetings Preparing, formatting, proofreading, and filing legal documents Managing case files, pleadings, correspondence, and deadlines Assisting with electronic court filings Drafting routine correspondence and client communications Organizing discovery, exhibits, financial documents, and other case materials Tracking client payments, invoices, and retainers Maintaining calendars and task lists Performing general administrative and office support duties Qualifications The ideal candidate should have: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks accurately. Professional phone and client-service skills Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Adobe/PDF software, and general office technology. Ability to work independently and stay on task. Prior law office experience is a plus, but not necessarily required. Experience with Utah courts, e-filing, family law, or adoption matters is a plus, but not necessary. Work Environment This is a professional law office. The person hired must be reliable, punctual, respectful with clients, and able to work in a busy environment where deadlines matter.
