TITLE:
Paralegal
JOB OVERVIEW
The Paralegal provides comprehensive legal and administrative support to the General Counsel at Valley Medical Center (VMC). This position is responsible for coordinating a wide range of legal functions including contract management, regulatory compliance, litigation support, and policy development. The Paralegal plays a critical role in ensuring the organization's legal operations are efficient, organized, and aligned with healthcare regulations and organizational priorities. This position collaborates closely with and acts as a liaison to internal departments such as compliance, privacy, risk management, human resources, and executive leadership to support legal initiatives and mitigate organizational risk.

Monday - Friday, 8:00a - 4:30p; hours may vary as required to fulfill responsibilities and meet department needs.

PREREQUISITES
: Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or related field required. Two (2) years of relevant and applicable experience may substitute for the degree requirement. Notary license required to obtain within 90 days of hire. Minimum of three (3) years of paralegal or equivalent experience required, preferably in healthcare, hospital, or corporate legal environment. Paralegal certification (e.g., NALA or equivalent) preferred. Experience supporting attorneys in contract review, litigation, or regulatory compliance matters preferred. Experience drafting, reviewing, and managing contracts and legal documents preferred. Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite products required. Familiarity with SharePoint preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
: Proficient knowledge of legal and medical terminology, legal forms and documents, and business and legal letter writing practices. Working knowledge of public record laws and regulations. Proven ability to plan, anticipate, and initiate legal and office tasks/routines independently with appropriate judgement and within set parameters. Understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to learn, apply and interpret laws, policies, and procedures. Must demonstrate sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions. Ability to maintain effective employee, patient, and public relations. Must demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential information. Strong understanding of healthcare laws and regulations, including HIPAA and related privacy standards preferred. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong written, verbal communication, and organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy. Proficiency in legal research tools and document management systems. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Administrative Partner Essential Responsibilities and Competencies:
Legal Support and Contract Management Draft, review, and manage contracts, agreements, and legal documents under the supervision of the General Counsel. Compose templated or simple agreements and coordinate the organization's contract review process to ensure contracts are reviewed by senior leadership and executed accurately. Maintain contract lifecycle management, including tracking, renewals, and document retention. Ensure contracts comply with organizational policies and applicable laws and regulations. Assist in negotiating contract terms and coordinating with internal stakeholders. Prepare legal correspondence independently. Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management Support compliance with federal and state healthcare laws and regulations, including HIPAA. Assist with regulatory audits or inquiries, accreditation reviews, and compliance investigations. Maintain and update legal and compliance documentation, policies, and procedures. Monitor regulatory changes and support implementation of necessary updates. Litigation and Dispute Support Assist in managing litigation matters, including document collection, organization, and production. Coordinate with external counsel and support case preparation. Maintain litigation files, calendars, and deadlines. Support responses to subpoenas, claims, and legal inquiries. Legal Research and Documentation Independently research, compile, and organize confidential information. Conduct legal research and prepare summaries, reports, and correspondence. Draft internal memoranda, policies, and presentations on legal topics. Maintain organized legal files and document management systems. Collaboration and Organizational Support Collaborate with departments such as compliance, privacy, HR, and risk management on legal matters. Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on contract and legal processes. Promote awareness of legal and compliance standards across the organization. Operational Excellence Ensure legal processes are efficient, standardized, and well-documented. Track and report on legal workload, contract status, and key metrics. Support department budgeting and vendor management activities as needed. Ensure work tasks are performed according to work plans and within target timelines. Perform other duties as assigned.
