Job Description

DeWitt LLP - Madison, Wisconsin DeWitt LLP is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and client-focused Family Law Legal Assistant to join our Madison office. This position supports a busy family law attorney with a high-volume practice and requires exceptional communication skills, professionalism, adaptability, and initiative. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working closely with clients during emotionally sensitive matters, and is confident taking ownership of workflows, follow-through, and day-to-day coordination. Key Responsibilities Serve as a primary point of contact for family law clients, providing compassionate and professional communication Manage high-volume phone calls, emails, scheduling, and client correspondence Draft, proofread, and format legal documents and correspondence Coordinate court filings, deadlines, calendars, and case management tasks Maintain organized client files and case records Follow up proactively to ensure matters continue moving efficiently and deadlines are met Work collaboratively with the attorney to prioritize urgent matters and manage workflow Assist in preparing for hearings, mediations, and other proceedings What We're Looking For The successful candidate will be: Highly organized and detail-oriented Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills Confident, resourceful, and proactive in seeking clarification when needed Comfortable taking initiative and helping drive communication, organization, and accountability within the attorney-assistant working relationship Able to anticipate needs and independently problem-solve Professional, dependable, and client-service oriented Prior legal assistant experience preferred Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal document management systems Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in sensitive matters Why Join DeWitt?
