Job Description

Examinations:
Oral Examination (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position. The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant an oral exam. Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process. Minimum Qualifications /
Employment Standards:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in criminology, criminal justice, sociology, psychology, public administration, business administration or a related field; eight (8) years full time experience in probation or parole work, including three (3) years in a management capacity, one (1) year of which must have been at a Probation Division Director level or equivalent. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet the minimum Peace Officer Standards as defined in the California Penal Code, Section 830.5, and the California Government Code, Sections 1029 and 1031. Applicants must have the ability to complete the training required under the Standards of Training for Corrections, including firearm training. Applicants must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. A felony conviction will be disqualifying; convictions of misdemeanors and/or traffic offenses will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Appointees will be fingerprinted and will be required to pass an extensive background investigation. Applicants must possess a California Class C driver's license at the time of appointment. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date. A background check may be conducted for this classification. Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense. This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
