Coles County Court Services, Charleston, IL TITLE:
Probation Officer SALARY:
Starting salary $49,976. Candidates with prior probation experience may receive higher starting wage based on qualifications and relevant experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direct supervision, responsibilities include but are not limited to supervision and case management of adult offenders, writing pre-sentence investigations, maintain and update case files, supervise drug testing, home visits and field work, oral and written reports to the court, maintaining relationships with justice system partners, treatment providers, and other community resources.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with major course work in human services field, criminal justice, or related social science. Experience in probation or counseling is desirable. Must be on the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts hiring eligibility list at the time of employment hire. Must pass a criminal background check, provide a negative drug test, and possess a valid driver's license.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Knowledge of the criminal justice system; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people and professions; excellent verbal and written skills; proficient in report writing; willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate the need of the caseload; ability to adjust schedule and shift priorities for the unexpected; competent in the use of various software; willing to assist offenders in making life style changes.
