Job Description

Key Responsibilities and Duties 1.Post-Conviction Victim Advocacy Maintain ongoing communication with victims and surviving family members following conviction and sentencing. Serve as the primary point of contact regarding offender status changes and post-conviction proceedings. Coordinate with the Mississippi Department of Corrections regarding offender information and victim notifications. Notify victims regarding offender releases, parole hearings, parole decisions, probation violations, arrests for supervision violations, escapes, and other significant offender status changes. Assist victims in registering for and utilizing victim notification systems. Assist victims and surviving family members in preparing statements for parole hearings and other post-conviction proceedings. Ensure victims receive timely information necessary to exercise their rights during parole and post-conviction proceedings. 2. Restitution Monitoring and Enforcement Monitor court-ordered restitution payments and maintain records regarding payment status. Communicate with victims regarding restitution collections and payment activity. Coordinate with circuit clerks and other court personnel regarding restitution obligations. Notify prosecutors when offenders fail to comply with court-ordered restitution requirements. Assist prosecutors in identifying cases requiring contempt proceedings or enforcement action due to nonpayment of restitution. Maintain restitution tracking records and related documentation. Homicide Survivor Services Provide specialized advocacy and support services to surviving family members of homicide victims. Maintain regular communication regarding prosecution, sentencing, parole hearings, offender releases, and post-conviction proceedings. Provide referrals for grief counseling, support groups, and community resources. Assist family members in preparing Victim Impact Statements and parole hearing statements. Coordinate memorial and healing activities designed to support surviving family members. Survivor Support and Community Engagement Assist with the planning and facilitation of Survivor Circle support meetings and activities. Assist with annual tree planting ceremonies and memorial events honoring victims of violent crime. Participate in Crime Victims' Rights Week activities and other victim awareness events. Conduct outreach and educational presentations regarding victim rights and available services. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community service providers and criminal justice partners. Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities Maintain confidential victim records in accordance with applicable laws and agency policies. Collect and maintain program statistics and service documentation. Prepare reports required by grant funding agencies and the District Attorney's Office. Participate in professional development and victim advocacy training. Ensure compliance with grant requirements, victim rights laws, confidentiality standards, and office policies. Perform other duties as assigned by the District Attorney.

Up to $70,000.00 per year
