Job Description
Under the general supervision of the Probation Director, the Probation Officer manages a caseload of offenders. The Probation Officer ensures that offenders are complying with any orders from the court. Additionally responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Manage a caseload by meeting with offenders on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis to ensure the offenders are following all rules of the Court and completing all requirements, and if not, reporting violations to the Court; Teach a Batterer's Intervention Program for domestic violence offenders; Teach driving school to traffic offenders while following all rules and guidelines of Blount County Probation, TN Safety Council, National Safety Council, and TN Department of Safety; Refer offenders to A and D Assessments ; Perform observed alcohol and drug (substance) screens; File and organize paperwork; Scan and attach documents to customer files; Accept, receive, and collect payments; Process and organize mail; Perform data entry into department databases; Assist, answer questions and interact with fellow employees and the general public; Create, maintain, and send caseload status reports to Probation Director on a regular basis; Work in the courtroom as offenders are referred to BCP for Supervision, Community Service, Driving School, Batterer's Intervention Program, or DUI School; File Violation of Probation Warrants with the Courts as needed; Perform inventory and property management, monitoring of GPS and alcohol monitoring offenders as needed; Work an on-call schedule as needed; and Performs other assigned duties. It is mandatory that for Probation Officer to: Knowledge of and ability to adhere to court policies, practices, and procedures; Gain and implement knowledge of the principles and methods used in the specific office; Gain and implement knowledge of the principles and methods used in the specific office; Skilled in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems; Skilled in using computers for data entry; Skilled in working and speaking with groups; Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service; Ability to organize and prioritize; Communicate effectively; and Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as a supportive team member.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in a criminal justice or a social services agency providing counseling services; or Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree from an accredited college or university; or Equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and Valid driver's license.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, reach and manipulate objects, tools and/or controls. The position requires mobility. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 20 pounds on a regular basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment, such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines. The position requires hearing, mental acuity, speaking, and visual acuity.WORK ENVIRONMENT
