Job Description:
Director of Health & Safety Manufacturing | Multi-Site Environment Overview A leading aviation manufacturing organization is seeking a Director of Health & Safety to provide strategic leadership across its operations. Reporting into senior EHSS leadership, this role will drive the design, execution, and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide health and safety programs while ensuring regulatory compliance and advancing a proactive, prevention-focused safety culture. This individual will act as the organization's senior subject matter expert for workplace health and safety, partnering closely with executive leadership, plant operations, and cross-functional stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Program Ownership Lead corporate-level health, safety, emergency response, and related programs across multiple sites Develop and execute long-term health and safety strategies aligned with operational and business goals Coach, mentor, and develop a team of regional and site-based safety professionals Drive collaboration with operations, engineering, HR, and leadership to embed safety into day-to-day decision-making Technical Expertise & Advisory Support Serve as a trusted advisor to site leadership on complex health and safety matters Analyze incident trends, near misses, and leading indicators to identify and mitigate risk Optimize the use of enterprise safety management systems and data platforms Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local health and safety regulations Oversee contractor safety requirements and external reporting obligations Prepare and present compliance updates and risk assessments to senior leadership Emergency Preparedness & Incident Response Own emergency preparedness and response programs across the organization Lead investigations into serious incidents and near misses, ensuring effective root cause analysis and corrective action Establish and refine response protocols to improve organizational readiness Training, Culture & Engagement Design and deploy health and safety training programs for leaders and frontline teams Champion a strong safety culture through accountability, engagement, and recognition initiatives Lead enterprise-wide safety campaigns to reinforce consistent standards and behaviors Metrics, Audits & Continuous Improvement Define and monitor KPIs to measure health and safety performance Develop audit strategies to identify gaps and drive corrective actions Report progress, risks, and recommendations to executive leadership Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline Advanced degree preferred 10+ years of progressive health and safety experience, including senior or director-level leadership Strong working knowledge of health and safety regulations in an industrial or manufacturing setting Professional safety certification (e.g., CSP or equivalent) strongly preferred Exposure to environmental programs is a plus Key Competencies Proven success building, scaling, and sustaining enterprise health and safety programs Strong executive presence with the ability to influence without authority Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills Demonstrated ability to lead change and drive cross-functional alignment Hands-on leader with a coach-and-develop mindset
