Job description: YellowBird is hiring an experienced traveling Safety Manager for a short-term, project-based contract opportunity supporting an active, large-scale mission-critical construction project in Montgomery, Alabama. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction safety professional who can take ownership of site safety, maintain a strong field presence, work collaboratively with project leadership and craft professionals, and support a proactive safety culture.

Compensation:

$72/hour as a 1099 independent contractor $150/day per diem Approximately 50 to 55 hours per week The $72 hourly rate applies to all hours worked This is a blended independent-contractor rate with no additional overtime premium , including for hours worked over 40

Schedule:

11 days on and 3 days off Typical shift is approximately 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM One Saturday is generally included during the 11-day rotation Sundays are not currently anticipated The position requires an approximately 6:00 AM start Candidates must be available to travel and maintain the required project rotation

Contract Duration:

ASAP start through December 31, 2026, with the possibility of an extension based on project needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Serve as a dedicated on-site Safety Manager throughout the project Conduct daily safety walks and identify potential workplace hazards Track corrective actions and verify that identified issues are resolved Manage OSHA compliance across active construction activities Review subcontractor safety programs, documentation, and field performance Review pre-task plans, job hazard analyses, and safe work procedures Lead incident and near-miss investigations Conduct root cause analyses and track corrective actions through completion Facilitate new-hire safety orientations, toolbox talks, and field coaching Maintain accurate project safety records, reports, and documentation Partner with Operations, superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and craft professionals Promote a collaborative, solutions-focused approach to jobsite safety Help strengthen safety planning while supporting safe and efficient project execution

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of three years of construction safety experience on projects of similar size and complexity CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, IOSH, STSC, GSP, or a bachelor's degree in an EHS-related field OSHA 30-Hour Construction completed within the past three years Strong field presence and ability to communicate effectively with craft professionals and project leadership Experience with incident investigations, hazard recognition, corrective actions, orientations, and OSHA compliance Ability to manage safety responsibilities independently and maintain complete, accurate documentation Ability to work the required 11-day-on and 3-day-off traveling schedule

Preferred Experience:

Electrical construction Data center construction Mission-critical projects Large-scale industrial construction Multi-contractor or subcontractor-heavy project environments NFPA 70E, LOTO, energized electrical work, or similar high-risk construction activities

Independent Contractor Position:

This opportunity is a 1099 independent-contractor engagement. YellowBird does not withhold federal or state taxes. Professionals are responsible for managing their own tax obligations. The $72 hourly compensation is a blended independent-contractor rate for all hours worked. Overtime pay or an additional overtime premium does not apply, regardless of the number of hours worked. YellowBird manages client billing and invoicing and provides occupational accident, professional liability, and hired and non-owned auto insurance coverage during active engagements. Safety staffing engagements are paid biweekly through the YellowBird platform. Professionals are responsible for submitting accurate timecards for each pay period. Payment is processed and released within two business days after the client reviews and approves the submitted timecard.
