Full Job Description Warehouse Safety Advisor Employment Type:
Full-Time Role Overview The Warehouse Safety Advisor will own the ongoing safety, organization, and operational integrity of our warehouse environment. This role leads the physical reorganization of the warehouse, drives continuous improvement of storage systems, and optimizes product placement in alignment with WMS best practices and safety compliance standards. It blends hands-on warehouse management with system-driven planning—ensuring that the physical layout, inventory flow, labeling systems, and operational workflows consistently meet WMS logic, regulatory safety requirements, and food/beverage compliance standards. The ideal candidate brings deep experience inside food, beverage, CPG, or manufacturing environments and knows how to translate digital WMS workflows into real-world warehouse organization, safety protocol, and operational improvement. Key Responsibilities Safety Compliance & Hazard Management Conduct a comprehensive safety audit of the warehouse, identifying hazards related to layout, product placement, equipment use, and material flow. Ensure all zones (receiving, production staging, pick/pack, backstock, QA, and shipping) meet OSHA standards, food-safe handling requirements, and applicable industry regulations (beverage, hemp, supplement, or CPG). Develop and enforce safe material handling procedures, including proper lifting, equipment operation, and PPE usage. Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS), emergency response plans, and incident reporting protocols. Lead safety orientations and ongoing training for warehouse staff on updated layouts, workflows, and compliance requirements. Warehouse Organization & Physical Layout Optimization Conduct a full assessment of current warehouse layout, storage zones, bin systems, and product flow through a safety and efficiency lens. Reorganize shelves, racks, bins, pick faces, and overstock zones to improve accessibility, safety clearances, and operational efficiency. Implement systematic product slotting based on SKU velocity, case size, seasonality, weight distribution, and safe handling requirements. Physically restructure zones to ensure compliant traffic flow, clear emergency egress, and logical separation of product types. WMS Alignment & Inventory Placement Planning Map physical layout changes to align with WMS logic, settings, and bin-location hierarchy. Create or refine location codes, bin naming conventions, and standardized zone identifiers. Ensure WMS-directed picks, putaways, replenishments, and cycle counts reflect real inventory flow and safe handling sequences. Recommend improvements to WMS rules (slotting, replenishment triggers, batch picking paths, FIFO/FEFO compliance). Labeling, Barcoding & Compliance Implement or refine labeling systems for shelves, racks, products, and zones—including safety signage, hazard labels, and floor markings. Ensure barcode accuracy, scannability, and WMS integration across all zones. Audit lot codes, expiration dates, and compliance documentation (food-safe, beverage, hemp, or supplement standards). Inventory Accuracy, Audits & Process Improvement Perform physical cycle counts, bin audits, and inventory reconciliation to strengthen accuracy and reduce risk. Identify discrepancies between physical stock and WMS data; recommend and execute corrective actions. Document all process and safety improvements; develop clear SOPs for warehouse operations, WMS alignment, and regulatory compliance. Train staff on new organization systems, scanning workflows, safe material handling, and updated operational processes. Operational Workflow Optimization Analyze and improve receiving, putaway, picking, packing, and shipping workflows with a focus on both efficiency and safety. Identify bottlenecks in material flow and implement WMS-led solutions that reduce risk and improve throughput. Streamline staging areas for production, wholesale orders, and sampling operations in compliance with food safety standards. Qualifications 3-5+ years of warehouse experience in food, beverage, CPG, manufacturing, or similarly regulated environments. Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA warehouse safety standards, food-safe handling practices, and regulatory compliance requirements. Hands-on experience with WMS systems (slotting, bin management, putaway logic, cycle counting). Strong understanding of physical warehouse layout, inventory flow, and operational process design with a safety-first mindset. Experience with barcode systems, labeling, scanning equipment, and safety signage installation. Ability to safely lift, move, and reorganize warehouse items; comfortable working in an active warehouse environment. Strong attention to detail and ability to create clean, easy-to-follow organization and safety systems. Excellent communication and training skills; able to effectively deliver safety protocols and process changes to warehouse teams. Preferred OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (General Industry or Construction). Experience with food safety certifications (ServSafe, HACCP, SQF, or similar). Familiarity with hemp, supplement, or nutraceutical compliance requirements. Prior experience leading warehouse safety audits or reorganization projects.
