Position Summary:
The Senior Safety Engineer is responsible for supporting and advancing the company's safety management systems across multiple construction projects. This individual will partner with operations leaders, project teams, and field personnel to promote a proactive safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and support implementation of company safety programs, policies, and procedures across active construction projects. Conduct site inspections, audits, and hazard assessments to identify risks and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and company standards. Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions. Develop and deliver safety training programs, toolbox talks, and educational initiatives for field and office personnel. Collaborate with project management and field leadership to integrate safety planning into project execution. Monitor compliance with OSHA, DOT, environmental, and client-specific safety requirements. Analyze safety performance metrics and recommend strategies for continuous improvement. Assist with pre-task planning, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk mitigation efforts. Support emergency response planning and incident management activities. Mentor and provide guidance to Safety Engineers, Safety Coordinators, and field personnel. Participate in client meetings, safety committees, and regulatory inspections as required. Maintain accurate documentation, reports, and records related to safety activities and compliance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred. 7+ years of construction safety experience, preferably within heavy civil, utility, infrastructure, or industrial construction environments. Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, construction safety standards, and industry best practices. Experience conducting incident investigations, safety audits, and risk assessments. Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local safety regulations. Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management software platforms. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
OSHA 500 or
OSHA 510
certification. CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), ASP (Associate Safety Professional), or similar credential. Experience supporting utility, transmission, distribution, underground, roadway, or other heavy civil construction projects. Bilingual communication skills are a plus. Demonstrated success building and sustaining a positive safety culture across diverse project teams.
