07:00-19:00, 12-hour days Project Overview This long-term assignment provides full-time, on-site safety oversight for the excavation and filling of a power plant ash pond closure project . The Site Safety Manager will support all phases of pond closure activities, ensuring strict compliance with site-specific Health and Safety Plans, IDEM and EPA CCR regulations, and applicable OSHA standards. Scope of Work Primary activities include, but are not limited to: Demolition and site preparation Excavation and earthwork operations Dewatering activities Ash handling and ash-impacted soil management Backfilling operations Installation of final cover systems Key Responsibilities Provide full-time on-site safety oversight throughout pond closure operations Monitor and enforce safe work practices related to heavy equipment, excavation, and trenching Oversee slope stability, water management, and stormwater BMPs Identify and control hazards related to coal ash and ash-impacted materials Conduct daily safety inspections, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and toolbox talks Support incident prevention, documentation, and reporting efforts Coordinate closely with contractor and owner safety teams Track corrective actions and support regulatory readiness Participate in safety meetings and ensure compliance throughout all construction phases Qualifications OSHA 510, required OSHA 30, required Minimum 5 years of safety experience Strong background in excavation and earthwork safety Experience in coal ash removal or CCR-regulated environments, preferred Knowledge of Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) requirements TWIC card, preferred CCS card, preferred Ideal Candidate Profile This role is well-suited for a safety professional with hands-on experience in excavation-heavy projects who is comfortable working long hours in regulated industrial environments. Prior experience supporting ash pond closures or coal ash remediation projects is highly desirable.
