An Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for managing a coordinated and systematic approach to managing the environmental impact of an organization on the surrounding area. Will ensure that the organization has a systematic approach to complying with environmental regulations, such as managing waste or air emissions. Other responsibilities may include finding ways to reduce the organization's carbon footprint.
Our client, based in Maryland, is seeking an experienced EH&S Manager to lead environmental, health, and safety initiatives within a manufacturing environment. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role responsible for building and maintaining a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will bring a proactive approach to safety, strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, and the ability to engage employees at all levels of the organization. What You'll Be Doing:
Lead the facility's environmental, health, and safety programs, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulatory requirements. Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory inspections, audits, reporting, and related compliance activities. Develop, implement, and continuously improve EH&S policies, procedures, and programs across the facility. Lead investigations into workplace incidents, near misses, and environmental events, conducting root cause analysis and implementing effective corrective actions. Conduct facility audits, job hazard analyses, risk assessments, and industrial hygiene evaluations to proactively identify and mitigate workplace hazards. Develop and deliver safety training covering areas such as lockout/tagout, hazard communication, confined space, PPE, emergency response, and other applicable programs. Manage environmental compliance activities, including air, water, and waste permits, waste disposal, spill prevention, and regulatory reporting. Track and analyze key safety metrics, including TRIR, DART, near misses, and other leading and lagging indicators, providing regular reporting and recommendations to leadership. Maintain emergency response plans, coordinate drills, and build effective relationships with local emergency response organizations. Champion employee engagement and behavior-based safety initiatives that promote accountability and a proactive safety culture. Partner closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, and leadership teams to integrate EH&S considerations into day-to-day operations and improvement initiatives. Be Successful:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years of progressive EH&S experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment. Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, including 29 CFR 1910, as well as applicable EPA and state environmental requirements. Demonstrated experience managing regulatory compliance, permits, inspections, audits, and reporting. Hands-on experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, risk assessments, and corrective action planning. Strong understanding of manufacturing safety programs and best practices, including lockout/tagout, confined space, PPE, hazard communication, and emergency preparedness. Proven ability to influence and engage employees at all levels while building a strong culture of safety and accountability. Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. CSP, CIH, CHMM, or similar professional certification is considered an asset. Experience with ISO 14001 and/or
ISO 45001
management systems is preferred. Experience with PSM/RMP programs is considered an asset where applicable. Ability to work primarily on-site in a manufacturing environment and respond to emergency situations when required.
