Job Description

SUMMARY Plans, coordinates, and manages the food safety and quality control program for the company's soft cheese manufacturing operations, designed to ensure continuous production of products consistent with established food safety and quality standards. Owns the site's Food Safety Plan and supporting pre-requisite programs, and ensures ongoing compliance with FDA regulatory requirements and the SQF Code for the manufacture of soft cheese products, by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Develops, implements, validates, and maintains the site's Food Safety Plan (HACCP/ HARPC) for soft cheese manufacturing in accordance with FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requirements, including hazard analysis, preventive controls, and CCP/PC monitoring. Maintains site certification and ongoing compliance with the SQF Code (current code) as applicable to soft cheese manufacturing, including document control, internal audits, and readiness for SQF audits. Develops, implements, and monitors pre-requisite programs supporting the Food Safety Plan, including GMPs, sanitation and Master Sanitation Schedule, environmental monitoring, pest control, allergen control, supplier approval and verification, traceability and recall, and calibration. Ensures compliance with applicable FDA requirements for soft cheese production, including Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO) Grade "A" standards where applicable, labeling, and current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) regulations. Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and food safety reliability expectancy of finished product. Formulates and maintains food safety and quality control objectives and coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other plant managers to maximize product safety, reliability, and minimize costs. Directs workers engaged in inspection, sampling, and testing activities to ensure continuous control over raw materials, in-process product, facilities, and finished products. Leads internal and external food safety audits (SQF, FDA, customer) and manages root cause analysis, corrective action, and preventive action (CAPA) processes to closure. Plans, promotes, and organizes training activities related to food safety, HACCP/HARPC fundamentals, GMPs, and product quality and reliability. Investigates and adjusts customer complaints regarding food safety and quality, and drives corrective action based on complaint trends. Partners with Production, Maintenance, and R D on food safety risk assessments for new products, processes, ingredients, and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three to five years of food safety and quality experience in a dairy or soft cheese manufacturing environment strongly preferred, including direct experience developing and maintaining a Food Safety Plan under
FDA/FSMA
requirements and supporting SQF certification.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS HACCP
Certification required. Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) required, or must be obtained within a defined period of hire. SQF Practitioner Certification preferred, or must be obtained within a defined period of hire. Internal Auditor / ISO 9001 Lead Auditor training a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, regulatory guidance documents (FDA, USDA, SQF Code), financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write technical reports, food safety documentation, and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, auditors, regulatory agencies, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, including sampling plans and statistical process control.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, including root cause analysis for food safety and quality deviations. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions, regulatory requirements, and audit findings in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Pay:
$95,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
