Job Description
Position Overview The Security Supervisor is responsible for leading and administering site health and safety programs to ensure compliance with company policies, MSHA regulations, and industry best practices. This role provides leadership, guidance, and oversight to employees and contractors while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Security Supervisor works closely with all departments to identify hazards, investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and maintain a safe working environment for all personnel. Key Responsibilities Lead and support site safety initiatives and programs. Promote a proactive safety culture through visible field leadership and employee engagement. Develop and communicate performance expectations for safety personnel. Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to employees. Support management in implementing safety initiatives and continuous improvement efforts. Safety Operations Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and field observations. Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with safe work practices and procedures. Assist departments in identifying hazards and mitigating operational risks. Ensure safety equipment, signage, and controls are properly maintained and utilized. Participate in planning activities to integrate safety into operational processes. Incident Investigation and Risk Management Lead or participate in incident, injury, nearmiss, and property damage investigations. Conduct root cause analyses and develop corrective and preventive actions. Track corrective actions to completion and verify effectiveness. Maintain accurate records of investigations and followup actions. Analyze safety performance trends and recommend improvements. Training and Compliance Coordinate and conduct safety orientations, annual refresher training, and regulatory training programs. Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns. Ensure employees and contractors maintain required training and certifications. Serve as a resource regarding MSHA regulations, company policies, and safe work practices. Participate in regulatory inspections and audits as required. Communication and Reporting Prepare and distribute safety reports, metrics, and performance summaries. Communicate safety alerts, lessons learned, and regulatory updates. Participate in daily operational meetings and weekly safety meetings. Maintain accurate safety records and documentation. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve safety systems, processes, and performance. Participate in sitewide continuous improvement initiatives. Recommend and implement best practices that reduce risk and enhance workplace safety. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Safety Manager. Qualifications Minimum of three (3) years of safety experience, preferably in mining or a related heavy industrial environment. Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and coaching experience. Strong understanding of MSHA regulations and mining safety practices. Experience conducting workplace investigations and implementing corrective actions. Knowledge of HSEQ standards and requirements. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Valid driver's license. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Degree or certification in Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Mining, Environmental Health and Safety, or related field. Experience with safety management systems and reporting software. First Aid, CPR, and Emergency Response certifications. Work Environment / Physical Demands Work 10 to 12hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and coverage during vacations as required. Frequent walking over uneven terrain and active mining areas. Ability to climb ladders and stairs and work at varying elevations. Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive movement. Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators when necessary. Exposure to noise, dust, heavy equipment, and varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation.
