The Manager Quality & Safety enhances the commitment to sensitive and caring quality outcomes and cost competitiveness and is responsible for the coordination of risk management, quality, and patient safety activities for

This includes responsibility for activities related to quality and performance improvement activities, accreditation standards compliance, aggregation and analysis of clinical performance improvement data, serves as a resource to hospital departments and physicians relative to performance improvement activities. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

The Manager Quality & Safety responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Plans, implements, and evaluates the Hospital Wide Performance Improvement Program, Risk Management, Physician Quality and Infection Control Directs activities related to quality and performance improvement and patient safety and risk management Assures organizational cognizance of the standards of the Joint Commission on accreditation of Healthcare Organizations through developing hospital manual Assists with activities related to risk activities at on a consulting basis, including coordination of the Medical Staff peer review process Provides educational resources and consulting services to system entities in matters related to accreditation, quality improvement, outcomes measurement, medical education and medical staff issues Manages Patient Safety in accordance with regulatory guidelines and reports to appropriate committees as mandated Analyzes actual and potential claims/risks at as identified by the risk management activities/quality assurance process Assures the highest degree of compliance to the incident reporting procedures Investigates all equipment related incidents that result in a serious illness, serious injury or death and submits a report to the manufacturer and/ or FDA as required by the Safe Medical Devices Act Completes interrogatories for attorneys, research medical records and interviews staff in order to validate compliance with policies and procedures and to gather information related to lawsuits Accompanies investigators from state and federal agencies and arranges for meetings with staff and obtains documents requested Ensures department staff are managed effectively, including hiring, evaluating performance and competency, and conducting disciplinary/counseling sessions as needed Reports to assigned Leader This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements. Slight exposure risk to infection and communicable diseases from contact with the public. Frequent changes of work assignment. Frequent interruptions. General office noises. May require working extra hours. Often required to work in other departments which may be noisy and crowded. Several ongoing request for investigation, demands for financial reimbursement, accusations of liability. Bachelor degree or completed within 12 months of hire required 3 years of hospital leadership/management experience required Master degree in management, business administration, statistics or health related field preferred Experience in health care quality management, including credentialing and JCAHO accreditation preferred Experience and knowledge of CDC, OSHA, State licensure, JCAHO and Medicare recommendations and requirements preferred Must be able to communicate effectively in English (Verbal/Written)
