Longwood Gardens is seeking a full-time Safety Manager to lead our organization-wide safety, compliance, and risk management programs. Reporting to the Director of Security, this role serves as a key partner to leaders across the organization, advancing a culture of safety while ensuring regulatory compliance, operational readiness, and the well-being of employees, guests, volunteers, and contractors.
Responsibilities include:
Leading the development and execution of Longwood Gardens' safety and risk management strategy. Ensuring compliance with applicable safety regulations and industry's best practices. Staying informed of emerging trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in occupational safety and risk management. Fostering a culture of safety through training, education, employee engagement, and leadership partnership. Oversee safety programs, audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action planning. Supporting emergency preparedness, business continuity, and organizational resilience initiatives. Building relationships with regulatory agencies, industry organizations and contractors, vendors to support compliance and operational readiness. Monitoring safety metrics, identify trends, and provide recommendations that drive continuous improvement. Supporting departmental planning, budgeting, and resource management. Responding to emergencies and support organizational operations as needed.
The ideal candidate will possess:
A bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered. A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in occupational safety, environmental health and safety, risk management, or a related field, including leadership experience. a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification required; Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification preferred. Strong knowledge of occupational safety regulations, compliance requirements, and risk management principles. Demonstrated success leading safety programs and influencing a culture of safety across an organization. Exceptional leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. The ability to analyze information, make sound decisions, and effectively manage priorities in a dynamic environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business systems. The ability to work flexible hours and respond to emergencies as needed. The ability to move through a large indoor and outdoor campus environment. The ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions and respond to emergency situations. The ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, lift, carry, and move equipment or materials weighing up to 35 pounds.
