Hours will vary based on project demands. Some projects may require 58+ hour work weeks. This role is dedicated full-time to a single project. Why This Opportunity? Join a leading general contractor supporting one of the largest and most complex construction projects in the Philadelphia area. This opportunity provides executive-level safety leadership on a high-risk project valued at approximately $1 billion or greater. The Project Safety Director will lead Environmental, HealthSafety (EH&S) efforts for a major construction project while overseeing a team of 4-10 safety professionals. This individual will partner closely with senior project leadership, client stakeholders, and field operations teams to drive safety strategy, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental HealthSafety, Construction Management, or related field, OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience Minimum 13+ years of construction safety experience CHST certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment OSHA 30 Certification Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification Previous management experience directing safety personnel and project resources Extensive incident investigation experience Strong budgeting, planning, delegation, and leadership skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS software applications Preferred Qualifications Project Safety Director or Regional Safety Leadership experience Experience overseeing large-scale commercial, industrial, healthcare, manufacturing, mission critical, or megaproject construction efforts Experience leading safety teams on projects exceeding $500M in value ASP, CSP, STS-C, or additional BCSP credentials Military leadership background Previous experience as a Superintendent or Project Manager with strong safety leadership experience What You'll Be Doing Lead, direct, and enforce Environmental, HealthSafety (EH&S) policies and programs Oversee and mentor a team of 4-10 onsite safety professionals Establish project-wide safety goals and strategic initiatives Partner with project executives and senior leadership to drive safety performance Serve as the primary safety liaison between project leadership and client representatives Lead complex incident investigations and corrective action implementation Coordinate project safety resources, staffing, budgets, and performance objectives Review and improve project safety processes and procedures Conduct leadership-level audits, assessments, and field observations Support continuous improvement initiatives to achieve best-in-class safety culture Maintain a consistent presence in both field operations and project offices Coach and develop safety team members to maximize project effectiveness Technical Knowledge Candidates should have working knowledge of: OSHA Construction Standards Environmental HealthSafety (EH&S) Program Management Large-Scale Construction Operations Incident InvestigationRoot Cause Analysis Construction Risk AssessmentMitigation Safety LeadershipOrganizational Development Contractor Safety Management High-Risk Construction Activities Fall ProtectionElevated Work CraneRigging Operations Electrical Safety Awareness Safety MetricsPerformance Tracking BudgetingResource Management EHS Software PlatformsReporting Systems What Success Looks Like The ideal candidate is a relationship-focused, engaging construction safety leader who understands how to influence project teams, build trust with operations personnel, and drive accountability at all levels of an organization.
