Job Description

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is seeking professional, dedicated individuals who are interested in a position as a Public Safety Telecommunicator Assistant Supervisor working 42-hours per week. Loudoun County is one of the fastest growing Counties in the Commonwealth of Virginia and offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The position may include rotating shifts and on-call for emergency situations.
Duties:
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of Division procedures, operations, and policies; reviews standard operating guidelines (SOGs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), General Orders, and the Training Manual; and participates in scheduled training to maintain the knowledge and skills associated with the job.
  • Assists supervisor in completing daily logs; ensures that pertinent information has been received from previous shift; and passes on pertinent information to the relieving shift.
  • Assists in overseeing, monitoring, and evaluating the daily activities and performance of assigned employees.
  • Assists in supervising squad operations during complex incidents, assists with supervision and scheduling of personnel in the ECC; and communicates effectively with all personnel.
  • Uses information and communication technology tools and resources in Department.
  • Ensures all 911 calls are answered in a timely manner and routed to the appropriate jurisdiction.
  • Ensures all systems are operational and coordinates with proper personnel any problems that are encountered.
  • Ensures the overall security of the building after hours.
  • Interfaces with other departments, particularly other public safety departments, Training, and senior leadership on information as needed.
  • Ensures proper operation of the
VCIN/NCIC
Teletype terminals.
  • Assists in coordinating the daily schedule; assists in assigning and distributing personnel and resources to meet daily service demands.
  • Operates computer aided dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Operates radio systems and equipment to dispatch service.
  • Operates telephone system and equipment to dispatch service.
  • Receives calls for service from the public and determines urgency of the call; obtains information necessary to respond to the call.
  • Monitors staff performance in accordance with County and Human Resources (HR) polices; provides regular feedback; provides input for appraisals of performance; ensures staff adhere to all applicable policies and procedures of the Department and of the County; ensures staff is trained and certifications are current; and advises supervisor of challenges with staffing, workload, or performance.
Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience. High School diploma or equivalent; four (4) years of experience working in a public safety communications center; includes two (2) years of experience at Public Safety Telecommunicator II or III level, preferably with Loudoun County. Satisfactory completion and maintenance of all required training and certifications of the Public Safety Telecommunicator III level. Selection process may include review of the Applicant Screening Questionnaire and County application, in person interview(s), successfully passing the CritiCall computer simulation test, and an intensive background investigation to include fingerprinting, credit check, driving record, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, and medical physical examination to include drug screening.
