(Astrolab) is pioneering new ways to explore and operate on distant planetary bodies. We are singularly focused on designing, building, and operating a fleet of multi-purpose commercial planetary rovers to extend and enhance humanity's presence in the solar system. We are seeking motivated, creative, and exceptional people to join our world-class team. Astrolab is looking for an EHS Specialist position to participate in and leads initiatives to provide for the safety, health, and environmental requirements of the employees. The position ensures all employees are trained in safety components relating to their position. The specialist reports to the Manager, EHS and works to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations for all employees, equipment, and operations. This role reduces workers' compensation exposure through accident investigation and proactive accident reduction techniques. As an EHS Specialist, you will play a critical role in contributing to the safety and success of our organization as we embark on revolutionary space exploration ventures. What you'll do: Implement and support manage safety programs, including but not limited to lockout/tagout, crane safety, respirator use, confined space entry, forklift safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other relevant safety programs. Plan, develop, and implement safety training programs for supervisors and employees to ensure compliance with standards and to enhance the organization's safety culture. Conduct safety audits of facilities to identify existing or potential incidents and health hazards, determine appropriate corrective or preventive measures, and follow up to verify that these measures are implemented effectively. Investigate accidents and incidents to identify root causes and develop strategies and recommendations to prevent recurrence. Inspect and evaluate equipment, processes, and work areas throughout the facilities to ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and industry standards. Prepare and deliver PowerPoint safety training presentations and related training materials. Assist with new employee safety orientation and ongoing employee safety training to ensure consistent understanding of safety expectations and procedures Support the development and achievement of annual departmental safety goals and initiatives. Interface with colleagues at all levels of the facility and provide safety leadership, guidance, and support to promote safe work practices. Maintain accurate safety records, documentation, and reports related to audits, incidents, training, and corrective actions. Collaborate with the EH&S team to continuously improve environmental health and safety programs, procedures, and performance. What you'll bring: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupation Health & Safety, Engineering OR high school diploma, or equivalency certificate preferred. Minimum of 3 years or more of relevant experience in health and safety or environmental and safety. Professional certifications in Health & Safety (e.g., CSP, CPP, ASP) are a plus. Specific knowledge of health and safety regulations, including state and federal requirements. Experience with OSHA safety standards and practices. Hands-on experience conducting safety audits and inspection. Experience delivering safety training and safety orientation programs. Strong organization skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and guide others on safety matters. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues across the facility. Experience in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of environmental health and safety practices, including hazardous waste and environmental safety procedures.
