Job Description

Talascend is currently seeking a Health and Safety Specialist for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Mountain Pass, California. Overview The Health & Safety Specialist supports the implementation and maintenance of health and safety programs across the operation, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. The role involves performing safety activities such as inspections, audits, training, incident investigations, and compliance monitoring to maintain a safe work environment. Responsibilities Monitor, assess, and resolve health and safety issues in the work environment Complete routine site inspections to remain in compliance with regulations Evaluate proposed process modifications, additions, and changes for safety concerns and recommend safeguards Ensure contractor personnel work in compliance with safety policies and requirements Assist in development, rollout, and updating of standard operating procedures (SOPs) Provide advice, assistance, and audit procedures to ensure overall safety effectiveness Develop and conduct safety training across all shifts Coordinate and ensure regulatory agency inspections and address deficiencies Conduct and document incident, injury/illness, and near-miss investigations, identifying root causes and corrective actions Deliver and coordinate environmental, health, and safety training programs to ensure workforce competency Support the development and implementation of emergency response plans and drills Maintain safety documentation, records, and data in compliance tracking systems Participate in management of change reviews and pre-startup safety reviews for new processes and equipment Assist with industrial hygiene monitoring such as air sampling, noise monitoring, and chemical exposure assessments Support safety committee activities, including meetings, action tracking, and employee engagement Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications 2-5 years of experience in a health and safety role Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA and MSHA regulations Excellent organizational and motivational skills Outstanding attention to detail and observation skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education Preferred Qualifications Certified MSHA Part 48 Instructor Certified First Aid/CPR/AED Trainer Ability to take initiative, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, and work in a team environment Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks Ability to address industrial hygiene issues with management and coworkers We thank all applicants for their interest.
