Position Summary Western Disposal is seeking an experienced, hands-on Safety & Compliance Specialist to support safety and regulatory compliance across our approximately 180-employee waste and transportation operation. This is an individual contributor role with a strong focus on OSHA compliance, driver safety and training, DOT/FMCSA requirements, risk assessment, emergency preparedness, and field safety . Key Responsibilities Lead and support OSHA compliance , workplace inspections, hazard identification, corrective actions, and required safety documentation. Conduct and coordinate driver safety training , ride-alongs, coaching, and refresher training. Maintain complete and compliant Driver Qualification (DQ) files , including CDL and medical documentation, MVRs, annual reviews, Clearinghouse requirements, and related driver records. Coordinate with Western Disposal's third-party DOT and Drug & Alcohol compliance vendor for required testing, regulatory administration, and compliance support. Conduct job hazard analyses, risk assessments, and field safety observations for drivers, equipment operators, facilities, and operational activities. Investigate accidents, injuries, near misses, and vehicle incidents; identify root causes and recommend corrective actions. Develop, maintain, and support emergency response plans, drills, and preparedness activities . Deliver safety training and reinforce safe work practices throughout the organization. Maintain OSHA records and assist with regulatory reporting, inspections, audits, and compliance initiatives. Qualifications 5+ years of relevant safety experience required , preferably in solid waste, transportation/trucking, construction, heavy equipment, utilities, manufacturing, or a similar operational environment. Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety practices required . Experience with
