Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The EHS Specialist supports a project by assisting in the administration of EHS programs to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Support corporate and project-specific initiatives under the supervision of more experienced EHS professionals. Conduct regular walk through inspections of construction areas. Participate in employee EHS on-boarding program to include new hire mentoring assignments. Participate in project ongoing EHS training program (with training matrix). Participate in emergency action plans (site evacuation, confined space, high angle, trench, chemical rescue, etc.). Participate in Project Weekly Safety Meetings and frequently attend crew daily safety meetings (Toolbox Talks). Participate in EHS risk analysis for project scope of work Participate in EHS incident investigations / root cause analysis Promote stop work authority with employees. Participate in tool and equipment inspections. Identify, document and recommend resolution of hazardous/potential hazardous conditions; follow through to insure corrections have been made. Investigate personal injury and property damage accidents. Compile data, photographs, etc.; prepare all pertinent forms and reports per program procedures and federal, state, local regulations associated with accidents. Conduct various industrial hygiene samplings, such as gas, 02, noise test to insure safe working conditions. Issue various entry permits (i.e. to confined spaces). Assist in conducting employee/craft and insurance inspectors on walk through tours. May accompany federal, state and insurance inspectors on walk through tours. Assist in emergency rescues. Assist in maintaining fire protection and grounding systems. Maintain all consumable health and environmental protection supplies at a level sufficient to ensure no interruption of project activities. Willing and able to travel as required. Willing and able to gain additional training, certificate, education, and clearances as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree in occupational safety/health. (Significant additional EHS experience may be considered in lieu of degree.) At least two years construction and/or industrial EHS experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced education and training/certification in safety management such as Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST), Safety Trained Supervisor Construction (STSC) and
OSHA/MSHA 30
Hour preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES
Ability to research & comprehend federal, state and local EHS regulations. Ability to recognize hazardous situations & recommend corrective measures. Ability to develop EHS procedures, work practices, training programs. Good interpersonal skills. Proficiency with standard office software. Good communication skills, both written and oral. Willing and able to travel as required. Willing and able to gain additional training, certificate, education, and clearances as required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with possible exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and all types of weather and temperature conditions. Occasional or frequent air travel with overnight stays.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Manual dexterity, sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time; Frequent climbing stairs / ladders, bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching; Occasional work on ladders, scaffolding, or high structures; Visual acuity to read printed and electronic documents; Hearing capacity to receive, perceive, and react to common construction environment auditory stimuli; Lifting and / or exerting of force up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds of lifting / force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of lifting / force constantly to move objects; and Frequent driving of motor vehicles.
