Job Summary:
Assists and advises the Safety Manager on all fire and safety concerns on Augusta University Health property. Provides liaison to local fire department, safety personnel and inspectors. Ensures life safety measures are in place and enforced. Maintains documentation on inspections and provides reports as required by management and appropriate committees.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Conducts emergency drills and procedures: Code Red drills (All shifts); fire compartments; evacuation plans. Practices safe work procedures. Assists Fire Department and/or First Responders.
Teaches/trains staff on emergency procedures:
inservice on Code Red drills. Speaks on hospital policies and procedures at events/orientations. Maintains appropriate safety documentation and testing records: EOC trending information; all water intrusion/air quality reports; chemial spills; Code Red activations; all fire protection documentation (fire extinguishers); SDS records and updates as needed; safety inspecton records of all construction sites. Complies with safety and training policies and procedures: attends required monthly OSHA section safety meetings. Attends annual safety trainings and updates. Provides training to departments for fire prevention, hazardous waste, and safety related items. Practices safe work habits and follows procedures. Encourages and promotes a safe working environment.
Hazardous Waste Management:
collects, transports, and stores chemical waste. Collects batteries, mercury lamps, and materials used in clean up for waste disposal/recycle. Reviews and signs waste manifest for waste collection.
Conducts inspections:
eyewash stations, emergency lights, safety showers, elevators, and mechanical rooms.
Environmental of Care Rounding:
PICR, ICRA, ISLM, contruction weekly inspections. Conducts safety surveys and lab inspections. Checks decontamination equipment and tank. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
High School Diploma General or GED General or Associates Other-Preferred Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. GADL - Georgia Driver's License or VSDL - Valid State Driver's License Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
DOT Hazardous, RCRA, Hazwoper, OSHA Upon Hire Preferred Required Minimum Experience:
Minimum 1 year healthcare setting, similar safety role, law enforcement or military. Required or Minimum 3 years similar safety role in healthcare setting.
