years of civil construction safety experience to work in our Safety Support Services Team, working to help clients implement Accident Prevention Plans (APP) on military construction projects as a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO).
Job Summary:
SSHOs are responsible for overseeing and ensuring implementation of the prime contractor's Site-Specific APP.
Key Responsibilities:
1.
APP Implementation and Management:
  • Implement and manage the site-specific APP policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings, safety meetings, pre-work (preparatory) meetings, and periodic progress meetings.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations of the APP throughout the life of the project to ensure it is current and site-specific.
2.
Site Inspections and Audits:
  • Perform regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and work with management to implement corrective action and identify system changes to avoid recurrence.
  • Ensure all equipment and tools are correctly selected, maintained, and used.
3.
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure all project personnel comply with SOH requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations and requirements, including OSHA and
EM 385-1-1.
  • Maintain and update safety records, including inspections, incidents, and training activities.
  • Prepare and maintain safety reports and recordkeeping.
4.
Incident Response and Investigation:
  • Investigate incidents and near misses to identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and identify system changes to avoid recurrence.
  • Coordinate emergency response activities and assist in developing emergency action plans.
5.
Risk Assessment and Management:
  • Conduct risk assessments and job hazard analyses for site activities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks.
6.
Training and Employee Engagement:
  • Provide awareness-level safety training and orientation for new hires.
  • Manage the training schedule for employees.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness, safety intelligence, and proactive hazard management.
7.
Communication and Coordination:
  • Serve as a point of contact for all occupational safety and health matters on the job site.
  • Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and other stakeholders to integrate safety protocols into all site activities.
Qualifications:
  • Provide satisfactory proof of U.S. citizenship. (U.S. or naturalized).
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain all required Security Clearances before commencement of work.
  • An associate degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • OSHA 30 Hour in construction safety training.
  • 24 hours of documented formal safety training within the past 5 years.
  • at least 3-5 years of cumulative safety experience within the last ten years managing or implementing APPs on construction projects, with an emphasis on civil construction.
  • Certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) as a CHST or higher is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of
USACE EM 385-1-1
(2024), OSHA 29 CFR 1926 & 1910 regulations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to utilize a computer to conduct research and enter data as required for each site inspection.
  • Proficient in the use and application of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook).
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to navigate and inspect all job site areas, including areas with difficult, rugged terrain.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work day, swing, or night shifts.
Work Environment:
  • Significant time spent on construction sites, with exposure to various environmental conditions.
