Jobs › Canton, MA › Security Team Specialist I State of Massachusetts Security Team Specialist I Canton, MA Apply Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) operated by the Department of Public Health is seeking a dynamic Security Team Specialist to maintain protection of buildings, grounds, equipment, patients, students and personnel in a state hospital against possible loss of damage from theft, fire, vandalism, civil disorder or other causes. This position may provide emergency coverage in various classifications including patrolling campus buildings and adjacent areas, investigating crimes or other incidents and other related duties.
Please note:
This position is full-time, 40 hours per week. Workdays are Tuesdays through Saturdays, 11:00 pm - 7:00 am. _Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_
  • Patrols assigned campus buildings and adjacent areas on foot or in a patrol vehicle to ensure the security of the buildings or grounds.
  • Guards against trespass, theft, damage to property, or injury to individuals by screening visitors, controlling crowds; providing personal protection as required; conducting surveillance of high crime areas; searching for missing goods and persons; investigating complaints and reports of suspicious activity, mediating disputes and inspecting grounds, fire lanes, and emergency exits for compliance with safety standards to ensure campus security.
  • Enforces policies of the Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children as well as investigates crimes and suspicious fires by interviewing witnesses, victims and others, preserving the crime scene and fire sites for examination experts.
  • Enforces campus traffic and safety regulations by directing traffic; assists operators of disabled motor vehicles; assists pedestrians in crossing streets.
  • Operates such equipment as two-way radios or receivers, base stations, public address systems, office machines and multi-line switchboard and computers.
  • May drive motor vehicles for the transportation of patients, Hospital staff, visitors and materials in emergency situations.
  • Cooperates in sharing information with other agencies as appropriate, notifying designated personnel of emergency; writes reports , maintains records.
  • Assists in the search for missing patients on the hospital grounds and the return of patients to their assigned hospital units.
  • Provides coverage of the telecommunication switchboard and performs emergency communication procedures such as calling emergency codes.
  • Performs various safety/environmental inspections as directed, including but not limited to Fire Extinguisher inspections, Focused Environmental Surveillance, Ceiling tile inspections.
Assists with fire drills as necessary. _

  • Capacity to deal tactfully with others and interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Skilled at maintaining a clam manner in stressful and emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and act quickly in dangerous or emergency situations.
  • Capacity to exercise discretion in handling confidential information and exercise sound judgment. _Preferred Qualifications_ :
  • Experience with youth and young adults with physical disabilities.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Prior security experience.
_About Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for
Children:
_ Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children located in Caton, MA is a Joint Commission Accredited, 90 bed pediatric hospital serving children and young adults ages 8-22. It is operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public health. The mission of PRHC is to provide medical, rehabilitative, educational, recreational, habilitative, transitional and complementary alternative medical services to children and young adults with multiple disabilities, assisting them to achieve their optimal level of independence in all aspects of life. PRHC offers coordinated medical care and therapies in a hospital-based environment, as well as K-12 schooling located on the grounds. Educational Services are provided by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. In addition, PRHC offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities such as swimming, horseback riding, adaptive sports, and many opportunities for socialization for disabled children and young adults. _

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have (A) at least one (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in work involving the protection and/or security of buildings, equipment or individuals, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Applicants applying for positions within the Department of Youth Services, Department of Mental Health and Department of Public Health are required to obtain and maintain a valid certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and first aid. Additionally, applicants applying for positions within the Department of Youth Services are required to obtain and maintain a valid certification in crisis intervention and suicide prevention.
Substitutions:
I. An Associate's degree or higher in a related field may substitute for the required experience. Incumbents may be required to have a current and valid motor vehicle driver's license at a class level specific to assignment. Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines.
