Job Description

Are you ready to make a meaningful impact on workplace safety and environmental responsibility? Our client, a leading manufacturer based in Lansing, MI, is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive EHS Specialist to join their team in a direct hire role. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline who is ready to lead environmental initiatives and contribute to continuous safety improvements. In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in managing environmental compliance and sustainability efforts. You'll work closely with employees at all levels, external agencies, and regulatory bodies to ensure safe, responsible, and forward-thinking practices are embedded into day-to-day operations. If you're passionate about environmental stewardship and occupational health, this could be the right fit. Responsibilities Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on workplace safety and environmental health. Act as liaison with federal, state, and local environmental agencies (e.g., EPA, EGLE). Manage environmental programs and compliance activities with a focus on pollution prevention and waste reduction. Support and guide energy monitoring and efficiency initiatives. Develop, implement, and enforce environmental policies and regulatory standards across the facility. Coordinate the recycling and proper disposal of all recyclable materials. Maintain and support the
ISO 14001
environmental management system. Prepare and submit required environmental documentation and reports in a timely and accurate manner. Provide training and instruction to employees on environmental safety, regulatory compliance, and job-specific environmental impact. Respond to agency communications in a professional and timely manner. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree. Minimum of 5 years of environmental compliance experience, preferably within a painting or industrial facility. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical problem-solving skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and environmental data/reporting systems. Preferred Experience & Training Previous experience in a manufacturing setting with painting processes. Familiarity with
ISO 14001
environmental management systems.
HAZMAT/DOT
training and Hazardous Waste Management certification. Certified Storm Water Operator. Experience delivering training or coaching others on environmental safety practices.
