Job Description

Food Safety Specialist Job Description We are seeking a highly hands-on Temporary Food Safety & SQF Support Specialist to join our Food Safety and Quality team. This role is ideal for an experienced food safety professional who can quickly integrate into plant operations, work directly on the manufacturing floor, and assist in executing day-to-day SQF, GMP, and food safety activities. This high-leverage position focuses on supporting audits, closing gaps, and maintaining strong food safety execution during a period of elevated need. Responsibilities Actively support plant-level food safety and SQF system execution with a strong on-floor presence. Monitor and enforce GMPs, sanitation, allergen controls, and food safety standard work during production. Assist with SQF compliance activities, including documentation review, record verification, and gap identification. Support internal audits, SQF audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections as needed. Help manage and document corrective actions (CAPAs) related to food safety or quality findings. Partner with Operations and Sanitation teams to address real-time food safety issues and escalate risks appropriately. Assist in updating or maintaining SOPs, SSOPs, forms, and SQF records. Provide coaching and reinforcement to hourly team members on food safety expectations and behaviors. Serve as an extra set of experienced hands during high-risk or high-activity production periods. Essential Skills Minimum of several years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, or FSQA within a food manufacturing environment. Working knowledge of SQF, FSMA, HACCP, GMPs, and food safety documentation requirements. Demonstrated ability to work independently on the plant floor and make risk-based decisions. Strong attention to detail with the ability to keep accurate, audit-ready records. Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment (variable temperatures, PPE, standing/walking the floor). Ability to flex schedule as needed (early mornings, weekends, or off-shift coverage if required). Additional Skills & Qualifications HACCP certified; PCQI or SQF Practitioner experience is a plus. Prior experience supporting SQF audits or GFSI certified food manufacturing sites. Experience stepping into temporary, interim, or project-based FSQA roles. Strong communicator who can work effectively with both leadership and frontline teams. Work Environment This position is based in a manufacturing facility with a plant floor focus, operating primarily on the 1st shift. The work environment is fast-moving, requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Elk River, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
