Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) Norfolk Dredging Company, a prominent family-owned dredging contractor with over 125 years of dredging history, is currently seeking seasoned Site Safety and Health Officers with at least 5 years of dredging, marine, or construction experience. Military experience relating to marine operations, construction, or safety will be considered. The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) position is a 100% field-based position requiring extensive travel and work at various jobsites along the eastern seaboard of the United States (typical rotation: 15 days on, 6 days off). The SSHO has primary responsibility for safety, health, and environmental management to ensure a safe work environment at assigned project sites. This includes conducting safety walkthroughs to assess and mitigate risks aboard our dredges, tugs, barges, and other marine equipment. In the event of an accident or injury, the SSHO must conduct thorough investigations. Strong writing and communication skills are essential. Key Responsibilities Conduct on-site hazard and risk assessments, safety audits, accident investigations, and equipment inspections to mitigate risks at project sites (primarily along the US East Coast). Initiate and monitor corrective actions. Understand basic dredging and marine operations; incorporate the company Accident Prevention Plan (APP), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and other plans/policies into daily work. Interpret, evaluate, and provide technical guidance on project safety requirements, including fall protection, confined space entry, materials handling, welding, marine operations, electrical safety, and other topics. Design and implement corrective measures for identified hazards. Develop and conduct onsite worker training on safety procedures/regulations, safe work practices, JHAs, PPE, and related topics. Monitor compliance with OSHA, USCG, and USACE safety, health, and environmental requirements. Required Qualifications

MUST HAVE

a current OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certificate. No exceptions.

MUST HAVE

at least 5 years of dredging, construction, or marine safety experience. No exceptions. At least 8 hours of documented formal safety and health continuing education/training each year for the past 3 years (to maintain competency per

requirements). Strong written and interpersonal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Excellent command of the English language (reading, speaking, and writing). Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Authorized to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in occupational safety or related field. Previous U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) project experience and strong familiarity with

training. Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Professional certifications (e.g., CHST, CSP). Physical Requirements The successful candidate must be able to: Work on vessels in and around water in all weather conditions. Climb ladders, stairs, and vessel gangways. Lift, carry, pull, or push items weighing up to 50 lbs. Stand and walk on unsteady, uneven, soft, hard, or rough surfaces/terrain for extended periods.
