Job Description

Individuals are encouraged to apply immediately. •The Town of Minden is seeking to fill the position of Town Sanitation Specialist. In addition to performing sanitation duties, including the collection and transportation of residential commercial waste and recycling, and performing general maintenance and repairs for vehicles and equipment, the Town Sanitation Specialist also assists in the maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of the Town's parks, streets, and facilities, ensuring the Town of Minden remains a clean, safe, and beautiful place for the enjoyment of all its residents. Position requires work on weekends or holidays as needed for special events. Primary Objectives Performs intermediate work performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the collection and hand loading of residential/commercial waste, as well as the transporting of this waste to a landfill site; performs related tasks as apparent or assigned. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Supervision Exercised None Collects residential and commercial waste and recycling from a variety of receptacles and locations. Drives a variety of Town vehicles and equipment to perform various tasks related to job duties . Transports waste in a safe and efficient manner to designated facilities. Returns/delivers receptacles and waste containers to customer locations as required. Performs an operational and safety check of equipment and vehicles before and after use; checks fuel and fluid levels, air pressures, braking systems, lights and mirrors, general engine condition, cab condition and exterior condition for any potential operational or safety problems. Cleans and disinfects equipment and vehicles as required. Maintains basic logs and records related to work performed. Assists with street repair, parks and facilities maintenance and snow removal activities; assists with emergency situations as required. Performs general maintenance or repair of vehicles and equipment; reports need for major repairs to the appropriate supervisor. Maintains open communication with coworkers and management team in person or via Town-issued cell phones. Answers questions and provides standard information to the public. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Completes basic records of work performed and materials used, utilizing software such as Microsoft Word or Excel, as well as timely completion of timesheets. Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public. Contributes effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience performing sanitation maintenance activities.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement within six (6) months of date of employment. Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) 10 Certification within one (1) year of date of employment. CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of date of employment.

Work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. heavy traffic, large equipment). Work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration; frequently requires exposure to wet/humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; occasionally requires working in high/precarious places, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to bloodborne pathogens (may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment).
