A Safety Specialist works with safety specialists to inspect and test workplace environments and equipment and develop workplace safety programs. May specialize in product and equipment safety, and work to identify and correct safety hazards before they affect a customer or end user.
Under direct supervision of the Environmental Health Director, conducts health inspections to ensure compliance. Prepares program reports and records as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Conducts on-site inspections of residential sewage and water systems, food service operations, manufactured home parks, public swimming pools, tattoo and piercing parlors, and recreational parks and camps. Reviews plans for food service operations, retail food establishments, mass gatherings and issues licenses and permits. Investigates animal bites and complaints regarding health standard violations and takes appropriate actions. Communicates with government, community, industrial and private organizations to promote environmental health programs and advocate for environmental health best practices. Collects and submits water samples for testing. Participates in rabies clinics and other specialty clinics and events relating to Environmental Health.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in the sciences. Current registration with the State Board of Sanitarian Registration as a Registered Environment Health Specialist / EH Specialist in Training in the State of Ohio is required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Achieves defined annual goals. Participates in General Health District's emergency preparedness drills and responses to actual emergencies, as required. Completes other duties and trainings as required by the Health Commissioner, Administrative Director, Board of Health, and Environmental Health Director.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Job duties include office work and field work, which may include some manual labor. In-state travel is required and out-of-state travel may be required. Employee must have a valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle.
