Hitachi Rail provides signaling systems for metros and light rail systems. Our solutions provide efficient, safe and green transportation solutions for people around the world. We're looking for eligible students to join Hitachi Rail! Hiring for May 2027 through August 2027.

The Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Intern will support the HSE team in promoting a safe and healthy workplace while assisting with environmental compliance initiatives. The intern will gain hands-on experience in occupational safety, regulatory compliance, risk assessment, incident investigation, training, and environmental management programs.

This position provides practical exposure to workplace safety processes and the implementation of HSE programs within a professional business environment.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with workplace safety inspections and audits.

Participate in hazard identification and risk assessment activities.

Support incident, injury, near-miss, and property damage investigations.

Help maintain HSE records, reports, and compliance documentation.

Assist in tracking corrective and preventive actions.

Conduct safety observations and behavioral safety assessments.

Support delivery of employee safety training and awareness campaigns.

Assist in creating safety communications, toolbox talks, and safety alerts.

Participate in emergency preparedness activities, drills, and exercises.

Assist with industrial hygiene activities, including air, noise, and exposure monitoring as applicable.

Support environmental compliance initiatives, waste management programs, and sustainability efforts.

Help maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventories.

Assist with contractor safety oversight and compliance reviews.

Perform data collection and analysis related to safety performance metrics.

Support development and continuous improvement of HSE policies, procedures, and programs.

Complete special projects as assigned by the HSE Manager.

Education

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree HSE, Industrial Engineering, or similar discipline with a graduation date between December 2027 and December 2028.

Languages:

Fluent in English, both written and verbal.

In accordance with the DOT's FRA and FTA programs, Hitachi's substance screening program tests pre-employment candidates and current employees, as required for safety-sensitive positions.
