Job Description Safety Internship/Co-Op Summary:

The Safety Intern's role exists to promote and augment safety to the highest level. To reach this level, the Safety Intern must able to work both independently as well as be a good fit for the safety team. Safety Intern will primarily be performing PPE hazard assessments. A working knowledge of OSHA standards PPE requirements and PPE hazard assessment is required.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provide leadership for promoting a robust safety culture

Build rapport with supervisors and line employees

Identify and address hazards

Perform PPE Hazard Assessments

Attend and communicate hazard assessment progress and issues with safety committees and encourage committee problem solving

Research and recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures

Ensure all work performed is done in a safe manner. Directs activities to protect employees and maintain safe working conditions.

Able to adapt to a flexible, fast-paced and dynamic work environment consistent with PCC's core values and mission statement

Must be able to maintain and protect confidentiality of sensitive information

Assist with development, implementation, improvement, and sustainment of safety programs

Assist with special safety projects as assigned

Duties not listed within the position description may be required of the intern at the discretion of the Safety Manager. Job functions may vary due to irregular working conditions or multiple shift positions.

REQUIREMENTS

Ability to communicate with a wide range of people

Understanding of manufacturing environment and risks

Good verbal and written communication skills

Ability to use Microsoft Office Products including Outlook, Word, Power Point

Methodical approach to work

Must be organized and detail-oriented

Be a strong team player in the safety department

Schedule flexibility

Education and Work Experience:

Current student in an occupational safety program in college or university in good standing, or a recent graduate of same program (within 6 months).

Recommendation from occupational safety program college or university professor or program director

Travel Required:

Projects and safety committee meetings may require travel to other local sites. Valid OR driver's license is required.
