Job Description

The Human Resources Health and Safety Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the well-being of our employees, promoting a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, and maintaining compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. This position is responsible for assisting with onsite employee relations, compensation, training and development, enforcing company policies and procedures, and implementing policies, programs, and procedures to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the workplace
Key Responsibilities:
Handles routine employee relations and human resources inquiries related to policies and procedures; refers complex matters to the Human Resources Manager. Serves as the initial contact and liaison for intake and assessment of employee complaints. Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resources programs. Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and best practices for health and safety regulations. Assists with administrative tasks for onboarding, new hire orientation, and exit interviews, including entering data into the HRIS system. Participates in the development of HR and health and safety objectives and systems, including metrics, queries, standard, and ad hoc reports for ongoing company requirements. Coordinates and conducts safety training programs to ensure company training compliance. Investigates workplace accidents and near misses to determine root cause and corrective actions. Maintains appropriate records Assists with risk assessments and inspections of workplace facilities, equipment, and processes. Assists with developing and implementing strategies to mitigate risks and improve safety performance. Develops and maintains emergency response plans and procedures to effectively respond to workplace emergencies. Conducts regularly scheduled evacuation and emergency preparedness drills.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of 3-4 years of related experience are preferred. 5 or more years of general HR experience is preferred. Advanced knowledge of MS Office and HRIS systems and comfortable learning new technical systems.
