GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is dedicated to delivering a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. We are currently seeking a qualified and motivated OSHA Specialist to support and enhance our commitment to workplace safety. This position plays a critical role in coordinating with WYDOT's Employee Safety Program to ensure district employees are properly trained and consistently adhere to all agency safety policies and procedures, as well as applicable state and federal safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate with the WYDOT Employee Safety Program to implement safety initiatives Ensure compliance with WYDOT safety policies, OSHA standards, and state and federal safety requirements Develop, deliver, and document formal and informal safety training program Certify and instruct employees in required safety practices and procedures Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement across district operations
Location & Community:
This position is based in Casper, Wyoming, and provides safety support and representation for all of WYDOT District 2. Casper offers a diverse range of recreational and entertainment opportunities, both indoors and outdoors, for residents and visitors of all ages. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level. Ensures employees attain and apply all aspects of personal and workplace safety. Collaborates with WYDOT supervisors and department management. Takes proactive steps through site visits and incident investigations to ensure district employees are applying personal and workplace safety. Collaborates with district facilities coordinator on annual informal inspections of all the district's facilities to ensure all safety compliance are utilized. Completes inspection reports and tracks documented deficiencies and corrective actions. Provides on-the-job training during routine and special surveys for inspections. Provides technical assistance and training to ensure any identified hazards are corrected. Assists with review of current safety policies and procedures, including current program/crew safety programs. Attend and support crew and job site safety meetings. Prepare training materials and training aids. Coordinate training sites and schedules. Provide guidance, training, and best-shared practices. Research, develop, and propose best practices in safe operating procedures and policies. Aid in updating and developing WYDOT Safety manuals and policies. Create and manage electronic forms and utilize WYDOT's safety management and computer database systems. Create data analysis reports.
PREFERENCES
Preference may be given to current CDL Holders Preference may be given to those with OSHA 10. Preference may be given to those with 30 Hours Instructor certification. Preference may be given to those with First Aid/CPR/AED (Adult, Child, Infant) certification. Preference may be given to those with Hazardous Materials Specialist certification. Preference may be given to that with knowledge of report writing. Preference may be given to those with knowledge of the federal and state rules, regulations, policies, practices, and procedures regarding safety.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of industrial hygiene and safety and their application to industry, other commercial enterprises, government, private organizations, etc. Knowledge of safety inspection procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically with OSHA)

One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay. Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date. Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period. If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back. 045
