United American Indian Involvement (UAII) is the only Urban Indian Organization in Los Angeles County, proudly serving as a home for American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Through our healthcare facility and culturally centered programs, we provide essential physical, behavioral, and spiritual health services—helping individuals stay connected to their Tribal heritage and traditions. For over 50 years, UAII has grown to become the largest nonprofit provider of health and human services for American Indians and Alaska Natives in Los Angeles, home to the nation's largest Urban Indian population. Truth and Transparency - I will communicate honestly and openly, ensuring clarity in our commitments and accountability in our actions Position Summary We are seeking a dynamic leader to elevate the safety and security of our organization, ensuring the well-being of our employees, clients, and community members. As a hands-on supervisor, this individual will bring expertise in safety, from basic first aid to EMT-level skills, and security, including law enforcement and weapons training. They will spearhead Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) initiatives, oversee comprehensive emergency management programs, and uphold industry best practices in our dynamic community environment. Essential Duties The Security Manager will oversee all aspects of the organization's security operations, blending strategic planning with day-to-day management to mitigate risks and foster a secure atmosphere. Security Strategy Develop and execute a comprehensive security strategy, guided by risk assessments to minimize organizational risks and align with business goals and objectives. Create security plans and protocols, administer and maintain existing security plans and protocols, including emergency response, business continuity, and disaster recovery. Hire, train, deploy, and manage security resources, while educating employees on security risks and best practices. Evaluate and manage relationships with third-party security vendors. Oversee the security budget, allocating resources efficiently for cost-effective measures. Assess risks to assets, employees, and operations, applying controls to protect critical elements. Implement targeted risk mitigation interventions based on assessment findings. Conduct threat assessments for employees and external actors, incorporating BTAM protocols to identify, assess, and manage threats through collaboration with mental health professionals and multidisciplinary teams. Protect sensitive data and information, collaborating with IT and cybersecurity teams to safeguard against cyber threats. Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and industry-specific laws, regulations, and standards. Personnel Management Supervise the security team, setting expectations, managing deployment, scheduling, and on-site performance. Conduct ongoing training for employees in security awareness, first aid, and emergency response. Maintain records of incidents, accidents, and investigations; prepare reports and use insights to optimize resource deployment. Develop and implement emergency response plans for scenarios such as fire drills, weather events, medical emergencies, active threats, and evacuations. Oversee full emergency management, including coordination with local services, post-incident recovery, and integration with business continuity. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the security team. Security Technology Management Ensure controlled access to premises, enforcing policies for visitors, clients, and employees. Organize regular patrols of the property, including buildings, parking areas, and other facilities; oversee surveillance systems and share threat information with partners. Perform preventative maintenance and assessments of security controls to eliminate gaps. Regularly evaluate and update security technologies to address emerging trends and threats. Collaboration Partner with local law enforcement, emergency services, and stakeholders to enhance security and coordinate responses. Maintain positive relationships with community members, staff, and clients, addressing security concerns professionally and promptly. Build and sustain ongoing partnerships with local law enforcement agencies. You may perform all elements of this position or identified components, other duties as assigned or required for the purpose of the position or for organizational efficiency and effective client service.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in law enforcement, Criminal Justice, Security Management, or Business Administration required. Minimum of 5 years' experience in campus safety, security, emergency preparedness, incident management, or related fields. Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory capacity. Proven experience developing and presenting training programs, managing crises, communicating effectively, and developing security strategies. Demonstrated ability as a builder of systems, policies, and practices, with strong risk assessment, problem-solving, and law enforcement collaboration skills. Prior military or law enforcement experience required.
Required certifications:
Basic first aid, CPR/AED/EMR; de-escalation/crisis intervention training; 12 hours of initial weapons training plus 12 hours of armed training, with up-to-date annual weapons training. Knowledgeable in security interviewing and threat detection Knowledge Skills & Abilities The ideal candidate will demonstrate a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and interpersonal skills essential for effective security management. Technical Security Knowledge In-depth understanding of Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) techniques, including early intervention and multidisciplinary approaches. Proficiency in surveillance and access control systems, physical protection measures, and security protocols, including fire prevention, safety, and operations. Experience conducting drills, tabletop exercises, and applying emergency management principles such as FEMA's Incident Command System (ICS) or National Incident Management System (NIMS). Knowledge of site safety and security program administration. Leadership and Management Skills Excellent management and supervisory abilities, with skills in interviewing, hiring, and providing training on security policies and procedures. Ability to handle confidential and classified information with discretion. Soft Skills Outstanding oral and written communication, with a strong ability to build and maintain relationships. Superior interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and creative thinking capabilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience) Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or equivalent; advanced training or certification in safety, security, and emergency management. Relevant professional license or credential. Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups and performance-based government contracts.
