Plans and implements security-related training for associates and medical staff regarding matters of safety and security. Facilities training courses which include programs such as De-Escalation, Workplace Violence Prevention, in-services, security officer competencies, Environment of Care, security drills, and New Associate Orientation.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Work Experience:
Three years of progressive experience in workplace violence prevention, healthcare security, public safety, emergency management, or a related field; preferably in a leadership or supervisory role.
License/Registration/Certification:
Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association. Valid class C Texas Driver License. Active Shooter Instructor certification required; or obtain within one year of hire. CPI De-escalation Instructor certification; or obtain within one year of hire. TCOLE license in good standing and TCOLE Instructor certification preferred.
Education and Training:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in related field preferred. Graduation from an accredited Law Enforcement Academy is required.
Skills:
Knowledge of workplace violence prevention programs, threat assessment, incident management, and emergency response protocols within a healthcare or similar regulated environment. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to safety, security, and use of force. Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, safety audits, security mitigation strategies, and incident reporting, tracking, and trend analysis. Knowledge of adult learning principles, curriculum development, instructional design, and training evaluation methods. Skill in leading and managing safety and security programs, including cross-departmental coordination and team oversight. Skill in conducting security assessments and translating findings into actionable risk mitigation and training plans. Skill in developing, delivering, coordinating, and evaluating training related to safety, emergency response, and critical incidents. Skill in incident response leadership, crisis management, communication, facilitation, and preparation of formal reports and metrics. Ability to lead and protect individuals during high-risk or emergency situations while enforcing organizational policies. Ability to identify risks, recommend corrective actions, manage staff performance, address non-compliance, and remain calm and decisive during critical incidents. This position involves a lot of interaction with all departments and department leaders within UMC and EPCH.
