SUMMARY:
Assists school administration with supervision of students and security of school grounds with the goal of maintaining a safe school environment for students and staff at assigned schools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Patrols hallways, restrooms, parking lots and entrance and exit points at assigned school Conducts perimeter checks for area assigned, e.g. checks doors, windows, gates, fences, lighting, etc. Checks student hall passes and assists students as needed Ensures all campus visitors are legitimately present on official business Escorts students who violate school rules to appropriate school authorities Assists with maintaining control of students and intervenes during disturbances as directed Confers with the Principal on matters of concern as necessary Writes incident reports as needed per established procedures on a timely basis and submits Keeps a daily log of all related security activities and incidents Keeps work area in a safe condition Keeps guard shacks need clean and orderly Assists law enforcement officers or other emergency personnel as directed by the Principal Attends safety meeting, training sessions and other related meeting as requested by the Principal Responds to all related emergency situations per established guidelines
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of security related practices and procedures Ability to safely restrain students if necessary Knowledge of rules and standards of acceptable student conduct, health and safety Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Prior experience working with students in a school security setting preferred Training in appropriate child-restraint techniques preferred CPR and first aid beneficial Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee is frequently required to work indoors and will also work frequently outdoors and may be exposed to extreme heat or cold temperatures, wind, rain, dust or other adverse weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Contact with employees, students and public.
