Overview The on-call Security is responsible for providing a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for guests, clients, employees, vendors, and visitors at the Santa Clara Convention Center. This position supports daily operations and special events by protecting the facility, monitoring access points, responding to incidents, and enforcing facility policies and procedures. Working under the direction of the Operations Department, the Security performs routine patrols of the convention center, monitors security systems, assists with crowd management, and responds to emergencies in a professional and customer-focused manner. The position requires flexibility to work a variable schedule, including days, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and special events based on operational needs. This role pays an hourly rate of $28.00 Benefits for Part-Time roles: 401(k) Savings Plan, 401(k) matching. This position will remain open until November 6, 2026 Responsibilities Patrol the interior and exterior of the facility to maintain a safe and secure environment. Monitor entrances, exits, loading docks, parking areas, and other designated locations. Control access to restricted areas and verify credentials of employees, contractors, vendors, and event personnel. Respond promptly to emergencies, alarms, disturbances, medical incidents, and suspicious activity. Prepare accurate incidents, accidents, and daily activity reports. Provide outstanding customer service by assisting guests with directions, event information, and general inquiries. Enforce Convention Center policies, procedures, and safety regulations. Assist with crowd management, event access control, and line management during large-scale events. Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, Event Management, local law enforcement, fire personnel, and emergency responders when necessary. Conduct opening and closing building inspections. Monitor CCTV systems, fire alarm panels, and security systems when assigned. Report safety hazards, maintenance concerns, and security risks immediately. Assist with emergency evacuations and implement emergency response procedures. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while representing the Santa Clara Convention Center. Perform other related duties assigned by management. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Previous experience in security, hospitality, customer service, military, law enforcement, or related fields is preferred. The California BSIS Guard Card is preferred or must be obtained within a designated timeframe if required. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification is preferred. Must successfully pass a background check. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations. Ability to observe, assess, and report unusual activity. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and incident reporting systems. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to patrol large indoor and outdoor areas. Ability to work in varying weather conditions during outdoor assignments.
