On-Site Position Highlight Looking for a consistent weekend schedule? Join PSMC as a part-time Security Officer working day shifts Friday through Sunday while helping maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for our patients, visitors, employees, and healthcare providers. Position Summary Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a dependable, observant, and professional Security Officer to join our Facilities team on a part-time basis, working day shifts Friday, Saturday, and Sunday . The Security Officer is responsible for helping ensure the safety and security of patients, employees, visitors, and PSMC property. This position patrols the hospital and campus, monitors surveillance and alarm systems, controls facility access, enforces safety and security policies, and responds to emergencies and disturbances. This is a highly visible position requiring sound judgment, professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to remain calm during stressful or potentially dangerous situations. The Security Officer also develops collaborative relationships with hospital staff, pre-hospital caregivers, and local law enforcement. Why Join PSMC? flexibility of a part-time position while continuing to build your security experience Key Responsibilities Security & Campus Patrol Regularly patrol the hospital campus and adjacent PSMC buildings to identify and address potential security risks Monitor surveillance cameras, alarms, and other security systems for suspicious or unusual activity Control access to the facility and help ensure only authorized individuals enter restricted areas Verify identification and manage visitors as appropriate Protect hospital property, equipment, supplies, and confidential information Help prevent theft, vandalism, unauthorized access, and other criminal activity Identify and promptly report safety risks and hazards Emergency Response & De-Escalation Respond promptly to alarms, disturbances, emergencies, and other security concerns Assist with evacuation during fires and other threats Provide basic first aid or medical assistance as needed De-escalate conflicts and disturbances using effective verbal intervention techniques Remain calm and exercise sound judgment when interacting with verbally or physically aggressive individuals Assist clinical staff with clinical restraints, including physical holds, when necessary Recognize potentially dangerous situations and quickly determine an appropriate course of action Escalate emergency situations to local law enforcement when appropriate Access Control & Surveillance Operate video monitoring, access control, and alarm systems Monitor facility entrances, exits, and restricted areas Support visitor management and facility access procedures Maintain awareness of activity throughout the hospital and campus Safeguard hospital assets through established access control, surveillance, and patrol procedures Incident Documentation & Communication Accurately and completely document security incidents and activities Prepare variance reports and communicate relevant information to leadership and appropriate personnel Use radio communications effectively and request additional assistance when needed Communicate professionally with patients, visitors, employees, providers, leadership, law enforcement, and other community partners Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information Patient, Visitor & Staff Support Provide wayfinding assistance and escorts for patients and visitors Maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service Support a safe and therapeutic environment for adults, geriatric patients, adolescents, and pediatric patients Treat individuals with dignity and respect while maintaining appropriate safety and security boundaries Work independently while collaborating effectively with hospital departments and leadership Education High school diploma or equivalent required Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field preferred but not required Experience Minimum of two (2) years of experience in hospital security, law enforcement, or another security position required Licensure & Certifications Current AHA BLS HeartSaver certification required Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification preferred but not required Skills Strong situational awareness and observational skills Excellent judgment and critical-thinking abilities Strong verbal communication and active listening skills Effective conflict resolution and verbal de-escalation skills Ability to remain calm and professional during emergencies and escalating situations Ability to respond appropriately to potentially aggressive or dangerous individuals Strong attention to detail and accurate incident documentation skills Ability to work independently with a high degree of self-motivation and self-direction Strong customer service and interpersonal skills Basic computer proficiency, including email, documents, spreadsheets, and applicable software Ability to use radio, video surveillance, access control, and alarm systems Additional language skills preferred but not required What We're Looking For The ideal candidate: Is observant, vigilant, and attentive to their surroundings Understands that healthcare security conflict-resolution techniques Treats patients, visitors, employees, and community members respectfully and fairly Can work independently without direct supervision Knows when a situation requires additional assistance or law enforcement involvement Communicates clearly and documents incidents accurately Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, integrity, and discretion Is adaptable and active security position performed in both hospital and outdoor environments . The Security Officer may encounter moderate to high noise levels, inclement weather, roadway hazards, communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and potentially verbally or physically aggressive individuals. The position requires regular walking and standing as well as climbing stairs, kneeling, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, and other physical activities associated with security and emergency response. The job description classifies the position as Very Heavy Work , which may involve significant physical exertion in certain circumstances.
Compensation & Benefits Base Compensation Range:
$18.00 - $22.38 hourly
