Non-Exempt Position Summary The Lead Campus Security Officer is a voluntary uniformed, armed security officer who provides on-site leadership and coordination of campus security operations. This position oversees assigned Campus Security Officers, coordinates daily staffing and coverage, ensures compliance with procedures, responds to incidents, and serves as liaison between campus administration and the district security department. The position performs all duties of an Armed Campus Security Officer while providing lead direction and accountability for team operations. Essential Job Functions Campus Safety, Monitoring & Access Control Patrol and monitor school buildings, grounds, parking lots, and surrounding areas to maintain a safe and secure environment. Monitor entrances, exits, hallways, and common areas; control access to restricted areas and verify student and visitor authorization. Identify and address unauthorized access, suspicious activity, safety hazards, vandalism, and theft. Verify visitor identification, enforce check-in procedures, provide assistance, and escort unauthorized individuals from campus as necessary. Incident Response & Emergency Operations Respond to medical incidents, disturbances, alarms, accidents, and other emergencies. De-escalate conflicts and restore order using approved techniques. Provide first aid within training guidelines and ensure proper reporting of injuries. Implement emergency protocols, including lockdowns, evacuations, drills, and crisis response. Assess threats, establish scene control, and coordinate with law enforcement and emergency responders. Serve as lead responder during incidents when assigned, coordinating response efforts until relieved by administration or emergency personnel. Student Supervision & Campus Support Support student safety, supervision, and behavior expectations during the school day and school-sponsored activities. Assist administrators with student location, escorts, and behavior interventions. Reinforce district policies, student conduct codes, and campus expectations. Leadership, Coordination & Training Coordinate daily assignments, schedules, and campus security coverage; monitor staffing needs and communicate operational concerns. Provide lead direction, coaching, and on-the-job training to assigned security staff. Support onboarding of new officers and reinforce department procedures, safety expectations, and service standards. Documentation, Reporting & Compliance Prepare and review accurate, timely, and detailed reports of incidents, disciplinary actions, and safety concerns. Ensure completion of logs, reports, timesheets, and required documentation in compliance with district procedures and legal requirements. Adhere to district policies, confidentiality standards, and applicable laws. Maintain required certifications and follow established protocols related to safety procedures, use of force, and evidence handling. Collaboration & Communication Work collaboratively with administrators, staff, and external agencies to support campus safety and operations. Serve as a liaison with campus administration and district leadership regarding security needs, incidents, and planning. Assist with threat assessments, investigations, and proactive safety planning. Participate in required meetings, training, and professional development. Perform other duties as assigned. Weapon safety, defensive tactics, and appropriate response procedures. District policies, applicable laws, and professional standards related to safety, confidentiality, and use of force. Skills in Observation, situational awareness, and identification of potential safety risks or threats. Conflict de-escalation, crisis intervention, and application of appropriate response techniques. Clear, accurate, and timely report writing and documentation. Use of security communication equipment, radios, and related technology. Effective verbal and interpersonal communication with diverse students, staff, families, and community members. Organization, prioritization, and decision-making in dynamic environments. Ability to Patrol and monitoring of large campuses with rapid and effective response to incidents. Maintaining composure, sound judgment, and decisiveness in high-stress and emergency situations. Coordination of emergency response efforts with law enforcement and public safety agencies. Maintaining professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality. Leading, coordinating, and training staff; monitoring performance and ensuring adherence to expectations. Managing multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining safety and operational effectiveness. Qualifications
REQUIRED
High school diploma or equivalent required.
REQUIRED
Must complete district-required first aid, CPI, and safety training.
REQUIRED
Must pass required background checks and pre-employment screenings.
REQUIRED
Must successfully complete district weapons standards and qualification program and maintain annual certification.
REQUIRED
Prior experience in security, school safety, military, or law enforcement

Must maintain all annual certifications.

Must pass physical, psychological, drug, and background screening requirements.

Valid Colorado driver license required with acceptable motor vehicle record.
PREFERRED
Minimum two years as Armed Campus Security Officer or equivalent security/law enforcement experience. Working Conditions & Physical Demands Work is performed in and around District school buildings and grounds, including indoor and outdoor environments. This role regularly interacts with students, staff, and visitors and supports oversight of campus security operations, including responding to safety concerns, behavioral incidents, and emergency situations. Exposure to varying environmental conditions may occur, and travel between District sites may be required. This position is primarily active and requires frequent walking and standing throughout the workday, with occasional sitting. Employees must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently, and infrequently exert force exceeding 100 pounds in emergency or safety situations. Movements may include bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching overhead and at ground level, and maintaining balance. The role requires the ability to grasp, hold, and manipulate objects and perform fine motor tasks. Employees must be able to receive, process, and communicate information effectively through verbal, visual, or auditory means, with or without reasonable accommodation. The position requires maintaining a high level of situational awareness, supporting coordination of security responses, and responding appropriately in dynamic and potentially high-stress situations. Non-Recurring Pay:
6% of base salary in Non-Recurring Pay (distributed as 3% on November paycheck and 3% on May paycheck). Staffing Stability Incentive (Adams Elementary, Galileo Middle School and Mitchell High School): All Teachers/SSPs (regardless of FTE) will receive an additional $5,000 split over two payments ($2,500 in November and $2,500 in May).
NOTE:
This is prorated based off of FTE. Teaching and SSP Staff qualify to receive an additional 10 extra days (beyond the District Calendar), paid at the per diem rate. Five (5) days for USIP design and five (5) days as "collaborative flex" days.
NOTE:
SSPs receiving extra days (per the Employee Handbook) are only allowed to work a TOTAL of 10 extra days. For example, nurses are allowed to work 3 additional days per the Handbook and are only allowed to work an additional 7 days (for a total of 10).
Mitchell High School Only:
Teachers/SSPs also receive a one-step increase (paid monthly). Pay for Performance (Mitchell High School): All Teachers/SSPs receive a Pay for Performance Bonus that is paid out in the fall (utilizing performance measures criteria from the previous year). Additional 10% to Base Pay for the following Hard to Fill positions: OT, PT, School Nurses, Audiologists, & School Psychologists Additional 15% to Base Pay for the following Hard to Fill position(s):
SLP Base Salary Setting:
Employment, assignment and salary placement, is in accordance with job description requirements. A work history is required to demonstrate job title, job duties and time worked in the position. Base Salary Setting (New Hires): Any newly-employed Teacher/Special Service Provider (SSP) will be placed on the appropriate lane for their educational background (BA, MA, etc). according to the official transcripts that are provided. They will be placed at the appropriate step for experience listed on the resume. Teachers will receive credit for a maximum of 14 years for any applicable teaching experience (provided that the experience occurred in the last 15 years). Base Salary Setting (Rehires): Returning employees who have previously resigned or separated from the District will be rehired at the same step they were on at the time of resignation/separation plus any new experience gained in the same job, provided step increases were approved by the Board during the years in question . See Employee Handbook (located on the D11 website) for information on salary setting for rehires (after retirement), promotions and lateral transfers.
