College Safety and Security Officer PT

Help keep the Flagler College community safe while building meaningful connections with students, faculty, and staff in this part-time role. This position blends public safety, service, and teamwork in a dynamic campus environment. College Safety and Security Officers are responsible for general supervision, maintaining safety, providing safety and security services, enforcing College rules and regulations, and protecting life and property within the Flagler College community and at off-campus properties owned/leased in whole or in part by the College. Interact and communicate with students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a friendly, courteous, professional manner. Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventive patrol of buildings and grounds on foot, in a vehicle or golf cart; open or lock building doors, gates and parking lots as directed or requested; turn lights off as directed; and occasionally staff fixed posts. Respond to routine calls for service and non-routine, priority or serious incidents in a timely manner; and take proper action to deal with suspicious activity, trespassers, and law violators on campus. Conduct preliminary investigations of civil, criminal, or unusual incidents and fire alarms, and prepare reports online of work performed using department RMS. Monitor closed-circuit television systems, burglar alarms, fire alarms and sprinkler systems, and two-way radio communication. Assist Residence Life staff in conducting fire evacuation drills; evacuate buildings or areas during emergency situations. Check vehicles parked on campus for valid Flagler College parking permits; issue parking tickets for violations of College parking rules and regulations occurring on College owned, rented, or leased property as directed by a supervisor or dispatcher; attach and/or remove traffic immobilizing boots from vehicles with unpaid parking tickets; alert Shift Supervisor to traffic hazards or violations that could result in a vehicle being towed and/or booted. Provide walking and mobile escorts for students, faculty and staff; assist ill, injured or disabled persons as needed. Perform special event assignments at on-campus events, including athletic events, homecoming, and commencement; provide traffic and crowd control. Routinely interact with and assist St. Augustine Police and Resident Advisors (RA) during normal patrol, sharing crime prevention and valuable safety and security information. Report all maintenance, landscaping and health issues, and life-safety and hazardous conditions through established department and/or College policies, protocols, or procedures. Regularly attend roll call briefings and in-service training. Maintain a working knowledge of the Flagler College Student Handbook, the Flagler College Staff Handbook, and the Office of Campus Safety & Security SOP Manual. Designated as an "Essential Employee," report to or remain at work during severe weather events or other emergencies, including when a delayed opening or closing of Flagler College has been announced. Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED. Three (3) years' post-high school general work experience A valid Florida driver's license Basic computer literacy and skills, to include the use of Microsoft Office Suite, MS Word or equivalent, Outlook, email, etc. Knowledge of Florida law, security and safety practices, and law enforcement principles in a college environment Pass a criminal background check and required physical. No traffic tickets, citations, or summonses within the past five (5) years. Ability to operate personal computer and associated software packages/programs, a cellular phone, portable radio, AED, hand-held ticket machine, multi-passenger van, and golf cart

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of full-time security or law enforcement experience. Comparable duties in the U.S. Armed Services accepted. A current Florida Security Class D or G License. Associate's degree or semester credit hour equivalent, or above. Certification in and ability to perform/administer basic First Aid, CPR, AED. Training/certification in the principles of the Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS).

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light work: exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Climbing, sitting, balancing, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, repetitive motions, running, bending, squatting, kneeling, grasping and ability to communicate appropriately with students/colleagues. Required to conduct foot patrols in buildings and on campus grounds for eight hours or more Required to possess the ability to ascend/descend up to five flights of stairs quickly without resting to respond to routine calls and emergencies Shifts may require the individual to work in adverse weather conditions. Ability to detect, perceive, identify, and recognize the odor of burning materials, noxious chemicals, or other harmful odors/scents Possess manual dexterity to check locks, doors, windows, fire alarm pull stations, burglar and trouble alarm system control panels, etc. Shifts run all hours of the day/night and do include working on holidays.
